Street Fighter X Tekken On-Disk DLC Dated

Capcom is pushing out Street Fighter X Tekken's on-disk roster upgrade way ahead of schedule.

Street Fighter X Tekken's much-debated on-disk "DLC" was supposed to go on sale shortly after the launch of the Vita port due this fall. Now it seems the content, which includes 12 new characters for $19.99 (1600 MS points), will be hitting the market on July 31st.

The DLC adds Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy and Sakura from Street Fighter and Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack-X, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong from Tekken, upping the game's roster to 50 characters total.

The Vita version of the game comes with all the aforementioned characters as well as a handful of exclusive ones. The first run of all retail copies come with two download codes - one allows players to transfer DLC content to a PS3 copy of the game and the second unlocks a set of alternative costumes for the non-DLC roster.

Capcom hasn't mentioned why it's pushing the DLC launch forward, but it could have something to do with the game's relatively poor sales performance [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/117274-Street-Fighter-X-Tekkens-Poor-Sales-Due-to-Cannibalism] given its franchise pedigree, a lackluster response from the fighting game community, or the fact hackers managed to access the 12 "DLC" characters shortly after launch.

I wish Karutomaru was still here. I'd like to see what he'd say about this.
So yeah, I'm proud of you, Capcom, this is the true spirit of making games!
OT: Wow, that's incredibly greedy, even by Capcom standards. 12 characters for 20 bucks? How can they do this?

Knowing Namco and their Tekken games, I doubt they'll pull off the same thing. I don't have a problem with DLC, but if it's one of my favorite characters (Elena for example), then it's a problem.

see namco and capcom are two totally different companies and namco already stated that tekken tag 2 will have dlc characters but they will be free but if u preorder it you get early access to them capcom is being greddy n it backfired on them thats why they are lettin sfxt dlc characters come out early because the lack of sales people are going to buy it but it would have been a best seller if the dlc characters was on the game when it first came out.....

I think it's time we (gamers, and others who work or operate in the video game industry) start calling "on disc" DLC what it actually is.

And that would LDC, or locked disc content.

Calling locked disc content, downloadable content is misleading and disingenuous because LDC has users downloading unlock codes for content already in their purchased product.

On the other hand DLC has users downloading actual playable content that wasn't present in the product purchased by the user.

Calling LDC, DLC only helps companies hide the fact that they are selling unlock codes for something users purchased and paid for when they bought the disc.

The people who made Dragon's Dogma are not the same people who make everything else I'm noticing.

Super. This may begin to be intriguing if it turns out that the balance patch being released alongside the character unlock code actually does some drastic shit. And if the code didn't cost twenty goddamn dollars.

Also, hackers managed to find those locked character assets on the disc a few days before the game was officially released. Some people cancelled their pre-orders because of it.
