I had my last GM pay close to 1k for a spectral tiger mount from a loot card. 1k... Put into that perspective, paying $25 for this mount is peanuts.

Still, if I hadn't quit ages back - it'd be another thing to /point and /laugh at someone for.

Is it wrong that I'm kind of tempted to start playing WoW just to get this horse? I mean come on, it looks freaking awesome.

If I had a WoW character with RP reasons to ride a celestial pegasus...I'm not sure. I'd give it serious consideration.

However, as I did not have such a character, I'd have no reason to get this mount. I use the flying mounts that are one of three things:

-easy to get
-aesthetically pleasing
-thematically appropriate for the character

Usually in that order, with the last two sometimes switching places. Thus, my time/plane-traveling rogue rides a bronze drake, my blind magic-steeped warlock rides her carpet, my laid-back death knight...actually I don't remember what she was riding. Hm. Probably also the bronze drake just 'cause it was easy to get, but I don't recall. Haven't played WoW since August '09 (8 months sober, woohoo!), it's a long time to remember what mount of convenience I was using on the DK since she didn't really have a thematically appropriate ride available.

...in the air, at least. On the ground, Shjade rode a hawg. In appropriate biker gal attire. ;p

So yeah. I'd skip this one. No character that would use it theme-wise and it doesn't suit my taste - too shiny. I'm sure it'd look cool and all, but I'd get tired of it long before it would pay off the $25 spent to get it.

I actually saw this and said I'm done with Blizzards obvious cash-ins and I am truly afraid of what will happen if Diablo 3 ever comes out. Paying 25$ for a mount that doesn't even look that amazing is just a load of crap. You can pay 25$ for an actual item, micro transactions are supposed to be cheaper because it costs them next to nothing after it's made.

The worst part is the success of this means other companies will get the same ideas.

Where's the gif of the Nintendo DS "lol it prints money" when you need it?

While this is definitely a shameless money grab on Blizzard's part, everyone knows that anything that works in-game will be bought by the truckload by OCD WoW players. I have friends in-game who are pre-ordering the SC2 collector's edition, which is ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS, just to get the stupid little pet that it comes with. Keep in mind that stupid little pet does absolutely nothing at all except stand next to you, while this mount actually functions.

Can see Activisions influence seep into Blizzards WoW...

Was actually thinking of playing WoW again till I saw this, thanks ... saved me wasting money and time. To me what was great about seeing other players running about with fantastic items/mounts/weapons/etc etc at IF was the fact that I too could earn those items if I applied myself, now I can earn items by applying my credit card... wow, gee thanks.

Wont be long before the next set of amour comes at a real money cost too, to save the casual players that cant spend all that time in game earning it of course.
Balls, Bobby Kotick signed his name all over this...

... wonder how WAR is doing these days?

If I still played WoW, and I was a bit older, I might have bought that. Because 2 months of gameplay costs as much as that horse, which is an useful mount for your entire gaming experience.

Due to the fact that it's sent to all your characters and all you're going to make, and adjusts itself to your players statistics.

if it cost a tenner like the pets I'd say its fair game, but £17? Nope, not for an in game pet. at least with the Gryphon and the Windrider you got a plush and an in game pet.

Honestly I don't think I can fault someone for buying this thing. The time spent grinding to get various mounts can easily cost more in subscription fees than the asking price here. If I was at end game, I'd consider buying one to be honest - seems easier than dumping the time required to get one the other way. That said, I don't think I have what it takes to see any MMO to end game so it is more or less irrelevant.

I would do anything to ride on a unicorn.
The Recruit-a-Friend program to recruit a friend gets you a Zhevra mount, which is essentially a zebra unicorn

@ Jiraiya72

You have displayed the most WoW fanboyism I have ever seen. I used to be a avid WoW player, until I realised I had much better things to do with $25AU a month. I WAS happy to pay that to actually play the game, because it was so fun. But $25 to use a virtual horse made of stars.. That is just stupid.

Give it a week, everyone will have one and then you will see it as a huge waste of money.

It's a shameless cash grab and given how much WoW already makes it would be nice if they'd give a little back to the community from time to time. Still, there's nothing really offensive about this, and it does let you identify people who have no sense of perspective from a distance.

If you felt it was worth it, congrats and all the more power to you.

Getting 2/10/100g on buying the regular mounts is something every alt can afford IMO. The pricey thing is the riding skill and you still need to buy that.

All said though, this -is- a blatant moneygrab by Blizzard and there's no way around that.

Just wait. Won't be long until you can buy a premade character for IRL cash.
