Frozenbyte Unveils Trine 2: Goblin Menace DLC

DLC goblins are menacing the heroes of the Trine!

It's like the opposite of day-one DLC: The lovely Trine 2 [http://www.amazon.com/TRINE-2-COLLECTORS-EDITION-Pc/dp/B0063CYSCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345133966&sr=8-1&keywords=Trine+2] launched all the way back in December 2011 and yet it's only today, eight months later, that we're finally getting a look at the first DLC release. Set for release this fall, Trine 2: Goblin Menace will add a few new twists to the familiar physics-based formula.

Goblin Menace will sport six unique new levels and improved visuals, and more importantly will also give its trio of heroes "revolutionary" new skills that can also be used in the original game. The nature of those skills isn't explained but in the trailer we can see Zoya erecting some sort of reflective energy bubble, while Amadeus is apparently able to anchor his platforms to other surfaces and each other and Pontius can now use his shield as a glider. New monsters, including sandworms, golems and some kind of shambling, zombie-type thing, are also on display.

Allowing players to use the new powers in the original Trine 2 levels will almost certainly soften its easy-going difficulty even further, but I think that'll be okay. This isn't something you play for a hardcore platforming challenge, after all, but because it's a gorgeous, light-hearted videogame fairytale that makes you smile.

Trine 2: Goblin Menace is slated to come out this fall and will also be included in the Trine 2 Director's Cut, currently in the works for the Wii U. While the studio hopes to release it on all platforms eventually, Joel Kinnunen of Frozenbyte said that for now the focus is entirely on PC, Mac and Linux. As for the cost, Kinnunen added that it would be "reasonable" and in line with the size of the expansion, which clocks in at about half the size of the original game.

That's an odd name for it since the original game is full of goblins yet this trailer isn't... is that the hidden joke, actually featuring no goblins.
