PopCap Confirms Plants vs. Zombies Sequel

There will soon be even more zombies on your lawn.

That a sequel to one of the most popular game franchises in recent memory is in development is hardly what you'd call an Earth-shattering surprise, but just in case there was any doubt, EA has now made it official: Plants vs. Zombies 2, or whatever it ends up being, called, is in the works at PopCap.

The new game will offer "a bevy of new features, settings and situations," although how it will differ from the original PvZ is anybody's guess at this point. The smart money is on "not too much," since the original game served up an essentially perfect combination of humor, variety and gameplay that managed to be challenging without sacrificing accessibility - which is to say, in less mealy-mouthed, marketing-department-jargon-ish terms, my mom and I both loved the hell out of it.

There's no word yet on which platforms the Plants vs. Zombies [http://www.amazon.com/Plants-Zombies-Zombie-Limited-Edition-Linux/dp/B0052U2IGM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1345491503&sr=8-7&keywords=plants+vs+zombies] sequel will be released (although sooner or later it will probably be "all of them") nor about how many collector's editions PopCap intends to force me to buy (although that too will no doubt end up as "all of them"), but at least we know about when to put our hands on our wallets: Plants vs. Zombies 2 is currently slated to come out in the late spring of 2013.

Man, no matter how much brain power I use, any comment I put down will simple be buried under that ray of sunlight. I salute you sir.

As far as the game goes I have already prepared to lose many an hour on this to defend my lawn gnomes from the great zombie invasion.

What about a proper Peggle sequel? I'd give anything to play Peggle at higher than 800x600 px or whatever resolution Peggle was using.

As long as they include an option that lets you turn off those mother-

Long long stream of invective I have censored after writing because I don't swear this much normally

digger zombies.

Seriously, I will straight up quit a survival game if I see a digger zombie in the 'this lot are coming next.'

Generally not very excited about this. I play PvZ as more of a distraction from writing, not as a serious game.

You know, I swear indie/small studios used to pride themselves on originality at one point...

Magnetshrooms, the solution to all your problems. If it's daytime, Magnetshrooms and Coffeebeans. Seriously, there is a reason they included a plant that seemingly does nothing, yet saves your sorry ass more times than you can count.

OT:
A game with neither opening nor need for a sequel but apparently PopCap got sick of re-releasing PvZ on every single platform available. I think they pretty much did everything they could with the design space. Still, I'm open for pleasant surprises. I loved the first one to brains... I mean bits.

this has got to be one of the best first comments ever. i can only hope that should i put years of effort into mastering both the timing and wit required to do something of this magnitude, i shall come within a yard of the greatness of this comment.

To paraphrase TJC, "Magnet-shrooms, how do they work?" By the time anything is remotely a threat in survival, you can easily have enough of them out to perfectly defend you against everything they're effective against, plus upgrade them to the gold version that collects coins for you so your entire setup is fully automated, without detracting from your budget for anything else your defense needs. They're pretty much mandatory.

We can only hope to reach such greatness some day. It truly was ground-breaking and un-punventional.

PvZ was actually a really good laptop game. I played it a lot during my breaks at school since it was one of the few things that didn't really need a mouse.

As long as they don't call it "Plants vs. 2ombies" we're good.

Except "Late spring" kind of scares me. The PvZ toys were due out "late spring" and a google search still doesn't come up with anything resembling the figurines that PopCap announced.

Hopefully we will get MOWN away.

No? Well I loved PvZ on my PS3. I played the hell out of it when I got it about a year ago off PSN. I was about to move, so most of my games etc. were packed and my cable/internet were about to be shut off at the time (thanks to my roommate giving me like 11 days notice he was leaving and making me pay an extra month's rent for my last week there with no tv/net) so it was a welcome diversion from staring at boxes all day.

Luckily Skyrim came in the mail after a few days. With literally nothing to do the day or 2 before my move I played the hell out of that too. I don't think I ever played PvZ again after that. I bet my garden needs a looooot of water by now...

ok, Pvs.Z was really a fun game and still play it every now and then but having ?A written on it, this sounds already like a bad sequel. which means it will be only available over origin only.

I can't wait to plant myself down and soil some zombie plans. This game will entangle me for hours and will be the seed of many sleepless nights. I can't wait for Plants vs Zombies 2 to finally grow into the amazing game that we have been promised.

Looks like I'll be going to the 27th circle of hell for bad puns.
