PSN Promotion: Spend $100 Get $20

If you're looking to buy stuff on PSN, this is the month to do it.

If you spend $100 or more in the PS Store during the month of October, Sony will give you $20 credit to spend in November. And by "spend," I mean "Buy Tokyo Jungle."

The promotion is store-wide and includes anything you purchase with your PSN wallet, including non-gaming stuff like PS Plus subscriptions, extended warranties, etc. The credit will be emailed to you in November, or sent via an XMB message if you're using a PS3. The promotion is limited to the first $100 you spend, however.

While downloading $100 worth of PSN games might be a little excessive, the promotion does cover the recently announced PSN Day 1 Digital [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119791-Sony-to-Launch-Day-1-Digital-Initiative] promotion. Picking up Dishonored and Assassin's Creed III, for example, would be enough to net you your $20. If you've already pre-ordered any games from the Day 1 range, that money will count towards your $100 total.

The promotion is similar (and arguably superior) to Microsoft's yearly Summer of Arcade bundle deals, which offer you a certain amount of Microsoft Points in exchange for buying a selection of XBLA games. Microsoft has always enjoyed a degree of dominance in the downloadable games market thanks to its aggressive policies regarding exclusivity. Sony has only recently started to fight back by focusing on a number of high profile exclusives and promoting its extensive back catalog.

I prefer Xbox but admittedly the new Xbox Live Rewards thing that gives you $2 for $100 worth or purchases... Well, this was a slap to the face Microsoft deserved.

Hate to say this, but doesn't this equal to about 20% off, except you first have to spend over 100$? Most sales on steam beat that by a long mile, and if your certain favourite game is on sale, you only end up paying about less than 10$ for the one game you want. Instead of having to buy a bunch of games for full price just to reach the 100$ mark and get the low sum of 20$ "back" that you have to spend on new games anyway... (even better if those 20$ are not enough, and you need to shell out even more cash)

Figures. I dumped a bunch of extra stuff in the cart last week when I picked up Tokyo Jungle. I'm not sure there's anything left I want.

Still wasn't anywhere close to a hundred bucks, though.

No, it equals the 16.66...% off. That is you are buying $ 120 of credit (spread around 2 months) for $100, ie you are paying only 83.33...% of it's value.

The fact that it's spread around two months should also depreciate the offer further. But whatev.

Edit: Since when we have four icons when posting? Madness!!

Not bad since it includes the Day 1 Digital, but I still have something against Sony, they still haven't released Tombi in Europe! (at least I'm pretty sure they haven't)

Pretty sure PSN did this last year cuz I remember getting the e-mail and $20. I think there was a full game and DLC aaaand that's when I joined the ps plus. So it wasn't too hard to get to $100

I just spent around $100 on the PSN last month and decided I wasn't going to buy anything from it this month. Kinda sucks that they didn't give any notice for this because I'd have held off on a few titles if I had known. Kind of disappointed.

And the last time Steam had a sale that was 20% off on every single thing, all content, across the board, including movies, brand new games, pre-orders for games and in-game purchases was......
never

steam sales usually cut at least 50% off

Or, one could wait and go for the better alternative that is the Steam Christmas sales. Provided you play games on your computer.

I still have no fucking clue what Tokyo Jungle is or how it's played. And I watched the preview on PSN.

oh, yeah, sony totally wins that one then, no contest there

i feel bad about missing out on having to spend at least a hundred bucks for games on a service that is liable to cut off title availability when it feels like it, during a deal that has only come up now, i mean, it has to be more special than steam's constant sales which are so common that these 50%+ deals off of titles that people actually enjoy playing out of a library that's roughly ten times the size of psn seem worthless in comparison

I might just have to pick up a whole bunch of games for my Vita now.

Pff. There is no way I'll ever spend even $50 on PSN. Good luck to me making it up to $100.

Same here. Perhaps it had something to do with the Rockband sale. Ugh. Kinda annoyed over this.
