Minecraft Unseats COD as Most Played Game Over Xbox Live

Minecraft is the first Xbox Live Arcade game to top all online activity.

In case you hadn't heard, a lot of people like to play Minecraft of an evening. Once a PC gaming independent darling, the building simulator that sprung from the mind of Notch has also found a large following on a console as an Xbox Live Arcade game. Even though the code on Xbox Live is older than the PC version - build 1.8.2 as of last week's update - the convenience of playing Minecraft from your couch, as well as the ability to play cooperatively both online and with split-screen, has enchanted players. In Larry Hryb's weekly update on Xbox Live statistics, Minecraft topped the list for unique users' online activity over Xbox Live, beating out AAA titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, FIFA 13, Black Ops and Borderlands 2.

To our knowledge, last week's list marks the first time an Xbox Live Arcade game took the number one spot for all online activity. Not only that, but Minecraft took the top spot in Live Arcade sales last week too, beating out the popular new Walking Dead episode from Telltale.

Here are the relevant lists, in case you were interested in getting the full context:

Wow. Someone has finally unseated Call of Duty from it's throne...and it's an Indie game. Notch...one word

Minecraft was kinda boring me, but now that creativity mode was added, I should probably give it another spin. On a side note, Halo Reach has more people than Battlefield. YAY! :)

This pleases me.
Yeeees. Gooooood. Don't shoot, just craft.

So maybe we'll see MW3 even lower on the next one?
Please?
No?
Oh fine.

The next one will be post-Black Ops 2, so yes but not in the way you're hoping for.

Well, as a Halo fan who has bought Minecraft and the first Skin pack:

Seriously, I don't know what is better: That CoD has been dethroned or that it was beaten by something at 1/2 to 1/3 of the launch price!

Well I just can't win can I?

A part of me wants to point out that it'll also be post- Halo 4, but... yeah, after Reach's inability to take the first spot, we wont be seeing any change here...

That's impressive, but I am more surprised as to how ME3 isn't even in the top-20 with the new multiplayer DLC out and everything. Guess the shitty random pack system turned everyone away once they remembered how shitty it was >.>

I'm looking forward to the upcoming announcement from EA's CEO, about how he'll no longer green-light any game that doesn't have an interface for gathering materials and building things out of them. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119449-EA-Turns-Its-Back-on-Single-Player-Games]

We all knew Notch had the top pick.
I always enjoy picking out your comments. You, sir, are truly a diamond in the rough.

OT: Everybody like Minecraft. I like Minecraft, you like Minecraft, PC gamers like Minecraft, console gamers like Minecraft... Everybody likes Minecraft!

I don't particularly care about the fact that CoD has been 'unseated'; I'm just happy that I will get to see more funny videos like this [http://ah.roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=4846&v=more]. Remember, internet, your kill montage may be great, but it will never match the beautiful madness that comes from giving a bunch of people tools to reshape the world.
