Animal Crossing Turns Over New Leaf in Latest Trailer

Animal Crossing 3DS has a new name for its 2013 North American release.

A few months ago, it was reported [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/118978-Animal-Crossing-3DS-Gets-Gardening-Store-More-Customization-Title] that the long-awaited Animal Crossing 3DS finally had a title: Animal Crossing: Jump Out. It's still slated to launch with that subtitle in Japan, but it will have a different name when it makes its way to North America: Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

The title was revealed on the latest episode of Nintendo Direct [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4QFbibEnX8&feature=youtu.be], which took place earlier today. In addition to the new name, Nintendo Treehouse producer Nate Bihldorff discussed some of New Leaf's features, elaborating on how being the mayor of your town will allow you to mold and customize it to your liking. You can also take your home furnishings to a new level by refurbishing furniture with custom designs and hanging items on the walls of your house (for which you will undoubtedly be indebted to Tom Nook forever).

The publisher released a new trailer for Animal Crossing: New Leaf this morning, which shows off some of the content that was discussed in the Nintendo Direct session. You'll also get a glimpse of KK Slider in his new role as DJ and some of the things you can buy for your town as the mayor. There's no indication of how the mayor actually pays for these upgrades, but let's hope it's not by borrowing bells from the Nook family.

Animal Crossing: Jump Out will be released in Japan on November 8. There's no release date for New Leaf, but it's expected to be out in North America in the first half of 2013.

I haven't been able to take Animal Crossing as harmless fun since reading Animal Crossing by Chewbot [http://lparchive.org/Animal-Crossing/]. It will give you nightmares!

I never was able to get into Animal Crossing. I'd go on a quick month-long binge and burn myself out and trade it back in. But I do see the appeal, and this title looks to be a decent shake-up.

That scrolling world turned me off. I get they want to push more 3D so it makes sense, but aesthetically it's awful.

I am happy that I just bought a 3DS. All the good games are starting to appear.

NO NOOK, PLEASE, YOU GOTTA GIVE ME MORE TIME MAN! I'LL GET YOU MONEY I SWEAR!

Please, you know the only reason you'll get to be mayor in this is because Nook has your back and your nothing more then a puppet so that he can dodge out of taxes and have someone to keep the police off his furry ass.

I just want to know if I get my own house in this version or if I am still going to be roommates with three other nonexistent people.

The rotating "scrolling" world as you put it has been the format for the Animal Crossing game world since the World World DS release way back in 2005. Personally, I preferred the Gamecube version of a flat "Earth," so I agree with you in that regard.

I knew that. I was assuming that this method for rendering the over world was preferable because it would show off 3D more than the flatter world, hence my mostly presumptuous remark.

The weird scrolling world puts me off. I really can't imagine why people prefer it (reminds me of old game with low draw distances), but evidently people do.

Aye, when all the tag lines were coming up about taking charge, designing things your way etc I was just imagining you in Tom's role from that story!

Should be great fun though, shall be stealing the other half's 3DS when this comes out.

Being the mayor just means having to make more people happy. OTL It's like you can design your own town, but people may not like it. Not to mention the money choices. "Well... a bridge WOULD be more conventional, but that water fountain that looks like me is pretty damn sweet." And then you end up owing money to the REAL mayor, freakin' "I have all the money in the world" Nook.
