Vergil Playable in DmC DLC

Capcom has confirmed DmC's first DLC pack will let you play as Dante's grumpy brother, Vergil.

Is the new Dante design getting you down? Well, you could play as his slightly more traditional brother, Vergil, assuming you either pre-order DmC or shell out $9 for post-launch DLC.

Vergil's Downfall tells "the untold story of Dante's twin brother." Considering Vergil's defeat and eventual resurrection as Neo Angelo was covered in Devil May Cry 1 and 3, I'm guessing we're going to see another deviation from the established canon. The pack's title implies it'll end on a similar note, however.

The DLC pack, which will be available in early 2013 for both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game, contains a separate storyline and adds new weapons, locations enemies and combos. It's going for $9 (720 MS Points), but North American gamers can get it for free if they pre-order the game through GameStop or EB Games.

Capcom's press release stresses that the DLC isn't included on the retail disk, but I doubt that'll do much to placate fans who think the series is heading in the wrong direction. Vergil was also playable in Devil May Cry 3 - which is widely regarded as the high point of the series - for the ever popular price of free.

DmC: Devil May Cry launches on January 15th, 2013, with a PC port to follow sometime that year.

Kind of shitty that it's not going to be on the pc, what with that version looking like the best option.

On the other hand, 9 bucks is fairly steep and probably too much for what they're selling anyway.

Well it seems that Vergil combat is more interesting than DMC 3 Vergil.
It isn't enough to make me want the game but I am pleased to see them giving more care to this Vergil gameplay wise than lackluster copy paste that was playable in 3.

All in all, good move.

Just a little thing, but technically should XBLA not be Xbox 360, unless Capcom have chosen an odd way to release DmC on 360? (Which to be fair, I wouldn't put it past them)

Anyway, I think you're right, this isn't going to placate any fans I would think, especially those who don't particularly like Vergil's redesign either.

I'm down for this. Vergil's redesign doesn't bother me... it's the goofy dialogue he's spouting in all of the trailers. He just seems like a tool.

No problem for me though, I had planned to get this game anyway and I already have it pre-ordered.

People bemoan the new take on Devil May Cry, frankly it got stale, and I'll show my hypocritical nature and state that I fucking WANT DARK SLAYER from DMC3.

Kind of shitty that it's not going to be on the pc, what with that version looking like the best option.

The best version of the game is which ever media device you are running it on, not just this game, but any game.

I have Bayonetta on PS3, apparently its shit because its on the PS3 if you listen to the internet, it isn't, its sublime. Same with DmC and most (I say most for a reason) games, playing on Xbox or PC or Wii vitality sensor doesn't make it better all of a sudden

Technically, it was the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 3. Kinda sucks if you got the first version already, but on the flip side, if you had a save file from the original version (not a game clear file, just a save file), you got Vergil and the Bloody Palace unlocked right off the bat. As for the actual use in-game, he basically just replaced Dante, with the cutscenes removed. Adding a separate storyline seems like a move in the right direction. Except for that $9 price tag. Great going Capcom. I'm sure you'll just sell SO many of those DLCs.

Did we play the same Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition? I saw Vergil do scabbard smacking, followed by one slash with Yamato and then sheathing the blade, ending the combo. I guess he DOES sheathe it after a slash, but one slash isn't much to base EVERY slash on. And lets not forget his more punchy-kicky style when using Beowulf, or his longer slashing combo when using ForceEdge with Yamato. So long as the gameplay's good, I don't mind if he doesn't strictly follow one single school of combat.

Funny thing, his hair looks almost like his DMC3 opening cutscene not-slicked-back hair. Which is to say it looks almost like Dante's original hair, just a bit shorter. So, yeah. Don't really mind. Hell, it almost seems like the devs throwing the fans a bone. Well, half a bone. From someone's middle finger. But a bone nonetheless.
