EA Reduces Support For PSP

Electronic Arts COO of worldwide studios David Gardner claims that the company will focus more on the Nintendo DS.

On MCV [http://www.mcvuk.com/newsitem.php?id=24253] today, Electronic Arts COO David Gardner discussed the Sony PSP and what they need to do to gain ground on the Nintendo DS. "I don?t think Sony can afford to sit back,? Gardner told MCV. ?I think they still have things they can do with the price and performance of the machine ? things that they need to address.?

He went on to reveal that EA will be placing more emphasis on the Nintendo DS in the future, noting that, "There?s no doubt that EA has historically bet more on PSP. I think we were excited by the technology, but the consumers have proven that actually what they want is fun. We must never forget that what we need to focus on is fun and so EA is putting more effort behind DS games ? and creative ones that really take advantage of the hardware.?

The Sony PSP has been neck and neck with the Nintendo DS in hardware sales, however the DS has sold more games per unit.

This is such a beautiful quote that I had to highlight it.

"So here's how it'll play out. Nintendo's DS will end up as the #1 platform. They'll deliver innovative, exclusive content that you can't get anywhere else, and that will drive sales. PSP will have lots of games, but very few will be exclusive, and ultimately the consumer is going to pass on paying $250 to get what he's already got, particularly because Sony's going to get distracted by the coming battle for the living room." (From "The War at Hand" in Issue 2 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/2/11] of The Escapist)

So elite that we report the news a year before it happens.

I'm one of those that think there's much more *fun* in the PSP than the DS (I own both, with plenty of games for both). I just happen to prefere the PSP. So seeing the biggest publisher backing out is really sad. At the same time, I don't like most of the EA games at all, so I'm not going to be directly hurt by it. Just indirectly, as it might trigger a decline in other publisher's support. :-(

T Mobile is giving away PSPs?

Since when?

This is the first I have heard of that.

And I am looking for a new cell phone company, seems my next stop in my local mall will be the T mobile store.
