Australian Gamer Shoots For Black Ops 2 World Record

Okan Kaya played Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for 135 hours in his Guinness World Record bid.

An Australian gamer - no, not that one [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/articles/Yahtzee%20Croshaw] - put in 135 hours of continuous Black Ops 2 play, in a bid to take the Guinness World Record for longest recorded gaming session. "I think it was the third day I felt a bit nauseous," says Kaya in this television interview.

Kaya played the game for seven days, adding together his ten minutes break per hour allowed by Guinness - so the competitor can eat, sleep and do other things - into longer time periods, so as to survive the experience. Despite logging so many hours, Kaya is only the 37th in Black Ops 2 world rankings.

Guinness has yet to confirm the new record, but all the paperwork is in; it should just be a matter of time.

At least now Kaya can rest. "My hands were cramping up and I went through a lot of bandages," said Kaya. "I even tried to 'pad up' my controller ... If I told the wife I had to go away for a week again and smash another record, she'd probably file for divorce."

While I have some sympathy for her point of view, Kaya's wife only has herself to blame. According to Kaya, he was inspired to take on the challenge by reading about other marathon gaming sessions in the Guinness World Records 2010, a book his wife gave him. Let that be a lesson to us all, particularly since Christmas isn't that far off; careless gift giving can have any number of unexpected results.

You're kidding in that last paragraph right? That's like someone getting their partner a new showerhead and then being blamed because they tripped in the shower.

Well more on topic, good for him I suppose, clap clap, well done and all that. I could probably beat his record playing Xcom but I'm not stupid enough to try.

I totally agree with your sentiment.

As for Okan Kaya, really? Black Ops 2 is the best game you can choose to do this with? WOW is (was) a far superior choice. I guess with a FPS after the 3rd day everything blurs to be the same so there is no thinking element involved and it's all muscle memory...

I guess that answers why nobody does it on LOTRO - they aren't stupid enough... *snicker*

Well congratulations. My being married and having a job would absolutely prevent me trying this, but I bet it'd be a trip you wouldn't forget.

Regarding the last paragraph, I'm totally guessing here but I imagine his wife was more worried about his health and safety, as well as his demeanor when he got home. I can't imagine it's really divorce worthy. Now that I've said that, I could plan eight days off work...watch out Okan!

"Australian Gamer Shoots-"

-Oh fuck not another one of these

"-for black ops 2 world record"

oh, awesome.

I can't even imagine attempting that, you're probably putting your body through some major torment attempting that.

Btw, Okan Kaya is a Turkish name/surname (I know because I'm Turkish as well). Kaya means rock in Turkish which makes sense I guess :)

Unrelated, but I had a few mixed feelings because of this news:
- reaction 1: wait what?! Black Ops 2 is out ? But I thought it was only released in 2013 ?
- reaction 2: runs to the Steam store, only to realize I already bought it (second "wait what?!" of the day)
- reaction 3: gleeful joy while it installs
- reaction 4: 80% in, I suddendly remember that I can't run anything 3D at the moment because the graphic card has hardware problems (it was rare before, but Dishonored finished to burn the poor thing).

Aww, another time then :/

Only 37th?

What a silly, time wasting *****.

How dare he not do better!

(If the Escapist was more popular this could make a good meme).
