Bethesda Shows Off Dunwall City Trials Gameplay

It's time for a look at some of the gameplay in the upcoming Dishonored DLC Dunwall City Trials.

Dunwall City Trials is all about the action. Rather than expanding upon the tale of Corvo (or any of the other characters in Dishonored), this DLC is all about getting from one side of ten different "challenge maps" to another, murdering and sneaking along the way, or perhaps just trying to get there as quickly as possible.

In keeping with the competitive nature of the add-on, there are online leaderboards, plus new achievements and trophies to be won. The trailer also features music by Dan Bull, who you may recall as one of the guys who asked Bethesda to "take them to Oblivion [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105106-Rappers-Ask-Bethesda-for-More-Elder-Scrolls]" a couple years ago, and while it's not bad by any stretch it does underscore the "thrown together" nature of the Trials: You're not actually experiencing Dunwall, you're just waving your skills around for all the world to see.

(By the way, you can catch Dan Bull's Dishonored Rap in full on YouTube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPg8qKIbIYU].)

Dunwall City Trials comes out on December 11 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and will sell for 400 Microsoft points or $4.99.

I absolutely loved Dishonored but nothing about that trailer makes me want to buy this DLC.

So basically they've gone from Chaos theory to Conviction all in one game? It's an milestone in itself I suppose.

As someone who will eat a sandwich while watching the guards move around in order to establish the best time and place to make my move, I cannot imagine buying this DLC.

Does this look rushed to anyone else? Y'know, like they said, "Holy shit, this game sold better than expected! Quick developers, get some DLC out the door pronto before people move on to other games! What do you mean "it takes time"? Look, just slap some levels together and get it out there!"

That's my needlessly cynical theory anyway.

On one hand, this looks like it doesn't really fit together with the overall Dishonored experience. On the other hand... it does look kind of fun to just dick around. On the third hand (er?) I don't know if I want to shell out money for it. Hmm.

But I find the game most fun when I am either A the knife in the shadows or B when I mess up and have to keep those who saw me from telling anyone. This doesn't look like it will give me either of those. I fear I will skip this one and wait for the whaler dlc that sounds like it might be more my style.

Not to me, no. They announced this DLC before they knew how big of a success Dishonored ended up being.

As for me, I'll plunk down the money. I loved the game, but I was hoping for something that would allow me to get my mean streak on without having to play the actual campaign. This seems right up my alley.

Meh. I can't see any reason to buy something that doesn't expand on single player game play. Challenge maps aren't going to tempt me.

Hmm..

at the time I was playing Dishonored, it seemed like a perfect game with no flaws.

But now that I look back on it, I think its biggest issue is that it advertises itself as a 'murder them DESTROYYYY THEMMM' game, but in the end it's like, 'meh, high chaos. You lose'

So in the end you just sneak through the levels without killing a single person. No use for guns, traps, hack tools, etc etc etc

A lot of stealth games fall into this trap. Playing through Deus Ex: HR right now and with the exception of boss fights and the Malik fight I have shot a gun (lethal or non-lethal) all of 3 times, and really it could've been once if I didn't have a problem with eating energy bars.
