New Aliens: Colonial Marines Screens Burst onto the Web

One thing is for sure: Aliens isn't getting any less creepy as time goes by.

Given the sketchy quality of most interactive adaptations of the Aliens franchise, each new glimpse at the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines should be enough to arouse both excitement and anxiety in fans of the franchise. Today, SEGA saw fit to drop a handful of fresh screens on us, and now we present them to you.

These new windows into the Colonial Marines world are, as you might expect, pretty frightening. It appears that SEGA has the atmosphere of the Aliens film down to a science, with creepy corridors and retro-futuristic architecture as far as the eye can see. Oh, and aliens. Did we mention aliens? Yeah, those are there too. Well technically they're xenomorphs, but we'll save that discussion for another day.

The most recent big-name title carrying the Aliens namesake was SEGA's 2010 release Aliens vs. Predator, which received largely mediocre review scores. Aliens: Colonial Marines is slated to arrive on February 12, 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC, so we only have a couple of months to wait and see if the new title fares any better.

I can never take it seriously when a guy is on a datapad or terminal when there are enemies behind him.

"Dude! Behind you!"

"Give me a second, i'm having a great LoL match!"

Alternatively you could be met with,

"Shutup. Raiding."

wait...this is SEGA?

does this mean I'm going to have to sit through insufferable pointless cutscenes? (I'm looking at YOU intro to vanquish)

Why cant it be February already? I really can't wait for this game.
I've been waiting about ten years for this game.

Seriously, this has been delayed/put on the back burner just about as many times as Duke Nukem: Forever.

I'm eagerly awaiting this game to (finally) come out, though I'll always be more of a Predator fan, as such I'm hoping they have another game like Concrete Jungle in the works (straight-up Predator game). Or if nothing else, another AvP. :3

This is looking to be quite promising however...these screenshots have an 'slight' odor of bullshots. Either way I'm sure it'll be grand regardless of witchcraft with the screens.

Alternatively, he could open/lock the giant door next to him or try to get some sentries on? But no, that would make sense - we can't have that!

Typically, when somebody's trying to operate the controls to something with aliens hot on their tail, he's getting his face ripped off first.

Thy confirmed that the motion sensor is on the wii u gamepad.

Even if the game turns out mediocre, I'm buying it and the wii u for that alone.

Does Gearbox have a history of such cutscenes? If not, rest assured it will not be a movie game. Well, it is, but you know :p.

God damn it, I didn't want to buy a WiiU, but this might make go over to the dark side :(

I would say it's clearly a "Movie Franchise based game". Or just "Licensed game" in a way they SHOULD be done (tell their own damn story. That's why the Ghostbusters game a few years back was good, too) but either way, it is a game, where the only unscippable cutscene is probably going to be the intro and otherwise, it's just gameplay. That is especially needed should the Campaign really offer "Jump in/Jump out"-Coop like Borderlands... as a cutscene-driven game isn't really working well with that.

On the bright side, this game already has more marketing behind it then Vanquish ever did... or get its release date screwed over like Anarchy Reigns.
