The Escapist's Game of the Year Voting Has Closed

You had your chance to vote for Game of the Year and now it's time to play the waiting game.

As of right now, the voting for The Escapist's Game of the Year 2012 has ended. Thank you to everyone that participated in this year's poll, and I hope you're all enjoying your shiny new badge. Santa and his elves will be counting the ballots for us, but given how busy they'll be tomorrow, we'll be announcing the winner on Wednesday, December 26th.

Be sure to check back on Wednesday to see what the community thinks of this year's videogame lineup. Do you think your pick will take the prize, or do you fancy your game of choice an underdog in this? What about the editor's choices? While we couldn't decide between us what the Game of the Year should be, hence calling on you good folks to decide for us, we do each have a pick to share with you this Wednesday when the community choice winner is announced.

If I were a betting man, which I'm not, and I certainly don't advocate illegal gambling, but if I were, I would put pretty good odds that at least one editor chose the community-selected winner for their Game of the Year. The long shot in this case is which editor and, of course, what game. Good luck guessing that in the forums and keep an eye out for the winner announcement on Wednesday. Happy Holidays to you all!

Hmmm.... it'll be interesting to see what it is. My guess is either Journey or The Walking Dead but, personally, I'm hoping Mass Effect 3 takes it. I think there might have been a few people who didn't like it though, so I won't be surprised if it doesn't win.

Voted The Walking Dead, but I think it'll be Journey, I haven't played it... but everyone who has, sings its praises constantly.

Well I think I can safely say Spec Ops: The Line (my vote) hasn't won then.

My guess would be Journey or The Walking Dead. Apparently both worthy winners, although I'm still to play either of them. Looking to get TWD when it goes on sale on the 28th on XBLA though.

I was going to vote for Journey until I realized it had nothing to do with Don't Stop Believin'... now I don't care anymore. Still, will have a look on Wednesday.

My bet is on Spec ops. Its been getting a lot of attention on this site particularly.
I've played jorney, but it never got to me in any way. Walking Dead was good, but Its not the Jesus that people make it out to be.

Well I think it'll probably be TWD that comes out on top, judging by the praise it's been getting.

Still, having never played it, or other stuff on that list (like Journey, or Dishonoured, or Mass Effect 3) my vote had to go to FTL.

Same opinion here, but there's one thing for sure, you just "have" to play all those smaller/middle class games on the list, because they have something unique about them in some way.

For example today I actually delved into Mark of the Ninja's story,it's actually much more than you experience in the game, you need all the scrolls scattered throughout the levels to get the entirety of it.And then it turns into this ambiguous lore and dilemma that has a lot of room for interpretation, even I don't understand it completely. However the ending was awesome(because like Spec Ops,it made me kill myslef, again)

I fully intend to try and play as many of them as I can. They are GOTY candidates after all =P

Coincidentally I've also been playing Mark Of The Ninja as well, and while I haven't reached the ending yet, I can already see what you mean about the lore in the scrolls and everything.

I'm saying FTL. Because I am a hipster. Yo.
I would've voted for FTL if Hotline Miami didn't come out. Sorry but Hotline Miami is such a sweet game. It took what SEGA tried to do with The Club and then made it engaging.

Are the "going on sale" for the New Year thingy that Microsoft does for XBLA posted somewhere? I've been trying to get everyone I know to play The Walking Dead (come to think of it, same with Spec-Ops...) but if it's going on sale soon, I want to halt my crusade until then.

This is the one that I found a while ago, that while technically a rumour, all of them have been correct so far (well besides the TBA one for the 22nd obviously =P)

Judging from your join date you weren't here for ME3's release.

Even minus Zeel's rants there was allot of bile thrown at that game, and it stuck to it enough to make it the unofficial 'worst' game of 2012 on another thread.

That said The Walking Dead is a clear front runner.

If Persona 4 Golden doesn't win (And it probably won't), I will cry sad, sad tears.
Wouldn't expect it to, considering it is just a remake, though a substantial one as I understand it.

Voted Journey, as it sticks out most powerfully in my memory, in terms of its profoundness. Haven't played the walking dead, though I mean to eventually, and I foresee it winning.
