Microsoft Offers The Walking Dead Episode 1 for Free

Experience the entire zombie apocalypse for just $10.

Telltale'sThe Walking Dead is undoubtedly one of the finest episodic experiences available for the Xbox 360, but you know what makes it even better? Paying less than half of the regular asking price. Microsoft is continuing its "Countdown to 2013" daily deals program by offering the first episode of the zombie adventure for free, and slashing the price of each additional episode by 50% for one day only.

The game consists of five downloadable episodes, each with its own achievements. The episodes would normally set you back 400 Microsoft Points each, or $5. Today you can download the entire series for just 800 points, or $10. If you already own one or more of the episodes, you can catch up on the ones you missed for 200 points each.

If the internet chatter hasn't already convinced you that The Walking Dead is worth dropping $10 for, our own Game of the Year voting [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121260-The-Escapists-Game-of-the-Year-2012?utm_source=latest&utm_medium=index_carousel&utm_campaign=all] should put your worries to rest; Telltale's take on the popular zombie franchise came in 2nd place, and was edged out by Mass Effect 3 by less than 1 percentage point.

Those brilliant, devious bastards.

Maybe folks will start realising that episodic games are a wonderful marketing tool... when the game is actually good.

Sony did something similar months ago for PS+ users. I think they gave away the first 3 episodes.

Downloaded them all, played through episode 1. Damn, those were some tough choices already D=

And it doesn't seem to let up with the start of Episode 2 either.

This was the deal I'd been waiting for since it had been rumoured, after everything I'd heard about the game.

I almost bought these episodes yesterday after seeing this game mentioned so many times as a favourite for 2012. So glad I held off until now, although my Xbox seems to be suffering a real go-slow; perhaps everyone's caught onto this deal now.

Free?

Free?!!

Can we get an apology for us Linux users, MS? You can start by supporting Skype on Linux and lifting your Secure Boot restrictions.

OT- Well, that's a change from MS's usual money grabbing scheme. Good on those guys. I have yet to play The Walking Dead as I missed it as I went for other games.

was just thinking to myself a day or two ago, I'll buy those if they're ever on sale, Thanks microsoft. though had a pain in the ass buying them that involved changing account details, adding new cards, and buying MS Points through my laptop due to some irritating error messages

Awesome.
I downloaded ep 1 and then purchased all of the others without even trying it.
I've heard good things, and I know my luck.
If I had waited to try it first, the prices would have tripled.

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine, I'll play that game already. Gawd.

I mean, the game is probably good but I hate it when everything and everyone try to shove it down my throat for whatever reason. Perhaps I would have played it on my own eventually but right now, I'm starting to dislike the whole The Walking Dead game genre.

Don't tell me how good it is and how I've been missing out or so help me god!

Downloading the first two episodes now. I'll need some more MS points for the other three though.

Well, if they did this for PC Microsoft users as well, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I'm kind of annoyed because I spent Microsoft points to buy an episode at full price literally the day before this happened... Currently trying to see about getting a refund on at least half those points so I can get the rest of the episodes. This game is easily worth $30 so I don't mind if I have to play a little over 10

Steam has had it on sale for $12.50 a couple of times during their xmas sale so far. Keep an eye out and see if it comes up again. (Afaik MS has nothing to do with the PC version so no point getting it from MS specifically)

It was the first two episodes for free, it's the deal that got me into the series.

The more people that experience this game, the better. Even watching Let's Plays of the game with people making different choices than you did is fun to watch.
