PSN Web Store Arrives in The U.S.

You can now blow cash on PlayStation content easier than ever before.

the Sony Entertainment Network web store [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121465-Sony-Preparing-to-Launch-Web-Version-of-PSN-Store-This-Month] (or PSN Store, if you're stuck in the past like us) in the U.S., allowing customers to purchase content from the comfort of their web browsers. The store offers the same robust selection of content that you'd expect from the console versions, including titles and add-ons for the PS3, PS Vita, and PSP.

After selecting the download you want and completing the purchase, the content is automatically added to your "My Downloads" section of whatever system is appropriate. You can sort by release date, title, system, and a number of other criteria, and there's also a section for upcoming releases.

It's somewhat mind boggling that it's taken this long for Sony to offer a browser-based version of its game marketplace, especially considering Xbox Live has boasted a similar service for some time now. Say what you will about the console versions of Sony's store, but personally I find the web store infinitely easier to navigate - not to mention the fact that it lends itself to impulse purchases much more than the alternative.

I assume the site updates around the same time as the consoles do it already navigates faster than the new console version(even over the old one) SO this could be the best way to "Shop" for new content If they don't ask you a dozen times if you want to buy something over and over when are trying to buy something.

Even if should have been done years ago, I'm still excited for it. I usually have access to my PS3 every week for sales and Plus downloads, but sometimes I just want to know the online price of a game and if there is any difference between that and a retail copy. Usually no but sales can sometimes sneak up on you.

Not really when you consider Sony isn't the one making the computers that you'll surf that marketplace. Need I remind you that consol manufactures tend to be a little possessive?

This made me laugh

Back to the topic at hand, if they make it so you can download movies you bought off psn onto your pc (I guess they would use some kind of video player to prevent piracy) then I would totally start using it getting tv shows

Why would they do this? The only reason I could see for this is so you could watch movies you buy off psn on your pc. But why bother when you could actually watch them on your tv or just buy a dvd to watch on either?

Besides that it's just bad compared to the old store that it replaced. It's slow and hard it's hard to find anything that isn't newly added onto the store.

The search function seemed to work just fine for me and I looked for multiple items that were on the PS1 and what not. My suggestion is to stick to that if you can't find the item you are looking for.

NO, BAD SONY! NO! *Whacks nose with newspaper*
Stop trying to make "SEN" sound cool! It's not gonna catch on! It will always be PSN Store.

Anyway, I still don't like the new interface; it's harder to navigate. But...I might end up using the online store now since using the store through my PS3 is just sloooooooooooooooooooow.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Just a few weeks ago (maybe like a month actually) I was thinking, "man, it sure would be nice to be able to redeem PSN codes without having to boot up my PS3" (this was while Insomniac was randomly throwing out Full Frontal Assault codes on Twitter).

Oh man, this is so cool.

Is it running some proprietary plugin like silver light? I tried using the newest releases of Chromium and Firefox (both with the latest Flash packages), or does it only use IE?

OT: I'd comment on how it looks and navigates but, Sony says my browser isn't compatible :\

Works fine with Opera on Slackware 14. maybe they changed some settings over the weekend. But it definitely does browser sniffing, which is bad practice.

I was hoping it would be similar to the XBox360 market, in that I can set something to download from the site and it will go ahead and download either the next time I turn the system on or while I have the system in standby mode. I don't see a particular selection for that. Which is too bad, the list the site provides for "purchase history" is so much easier to browse than the on system list.
