Splinter Cell: Blacklist Gets a Flying Collectors Edition

The collector's edition of Splinter Cell: Blacklist isn't cheap, but it's the only one I've ever seen that actually flies.

First things first: The Splinter Cell: Blacklist Collectors Edition will cost you 170 bucks. Wow! Why so much, you wonder? Because it includes an actual airplane: a radio-controlled, twin-engine model of the Paladin aircraft that Sam Fisher and the Fourth Echelon team use for their globe-hopping shenanigans. Lest there be any confusion, let me be perfectly clear: it flies!

Other stuff in what is officially known as the Splinter Cell: Blacklist Paladin Multi-Mission Aircraft Edition includes the 88-page Splinter Cell Echoes graphic novel, a poster, the "Billionaire's Yacht" co-op multiplayer map and the Upper Echelon Pack containing the "Dead Coast" co-op map and the Gold Sonar Goggles and Upper Echelon Suit in-game items.

And a plane!

It's pretty cool, although I don't know if it justifies a $110 jump over the price of the regular edition; battery-powered RC planes aren't that expensive, after all. Then again, this isn't just any plane: This is the plane that carries the man who will put you in a graveyard full of guys just like you if you don't give him something useful. That probably counts for something.

Alas, this swanky CE will apparently only be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3; PC gamers will have to stick with the standard release. Splinter Cell: Blacklist comes out on August 20.

I'm all for collectibles.. heck I bought the MGR:R CE which only ran $20 less than this.. but this seems like a bad idea because you know it's gonna be fragile as all hell.

Oh....well fuck you too Ubisoft.

Not like I was going to get this game. 1) it's from Ubisoft 2) Splinter Cell has gone action game with aim bot. WTB real stealth Splinter Cell please and thanks.

The question is, does it contain a tiny Sam Fisher who, once you open the hold, will escape into your house and hide in the walls forever, shooting you with a tiny silenced handgun when you're trying to sleep?

When are these idiots gonna learn that we want the fuckin' night vision goggles?
In all honesty, if this collection came with a functioning pair of Sam's goggles, I would probably have already pre-ordered.

You know I have my doubts that model "plane" can actually get off the ground....
I'll believe it when I see it

Oh, well, I'm glad to see that Blops 2 established a new trend: Special Editions that cost more than the average "expensive $150" Special Edition. I mean, damn, I though $80 was a lot for the Hardened edition, I though $120 was a lot for AC3, I thought $150 was a lot for Skyrim.

But you know...

1. Add a cool RC
2. Add a couple of okay items
3. ????
4. PROFIT!

Why refuse to release it to the PC, are they afraid someone's going to pirate the remote control plane?!?

That's a pretty baffling business move right there, I mean it's a book, a poster, and 2 in-game maps and a model reskin. To decide not to release that on a platform is pretty mind-boggling. I can only assume it's their misguided piracy overreaction informing policy again.

Nothing says "Stealth" like a giant fucking aircraft you need to land and get out of at every location.

"Wonder if there's any spies around!?"

"Well, those one guys who use that giant black plane landed yesterday, but, I'm sure they're just tourists".

What?

Sam Fisher HALO jumps out of it. Or have you never played the other games (Double Agent opens with that, I think) or seen any movies in your life?

Now that I think of it, that kind of plane and a HALO jump (gone wrong) is the opening to Crysis:

What? I don't recall Fisher ever jumping out of a "Paladin" aircraft; I think it was only ever a special Osprey. You know, that weird hover-helicopter thing.

So... we're just going to do what we're doing with The Last of Us and assume there's no stealth option even though there's been evidence to the contrary for half a year?
Hey, people still assume you can't stealth conviction when i've proved that aside from a couple of scenes where it needs you to clear enemies, you can largely avoid them. They just made being a badass an option and that irks people.
