Stallone Speaks in Rambo: The Video Game

The original movie voice track to be used in the upcoming shooter.

One of the great mysteries of our age is the lack of a true Rambo game. Outside of the [a href=http://www.destructoid.com/why-rambo-arcade-is-the-dumbest-most-brilliant-shooter-ever-141790.phtml]recent arcade game[/a], fans would be best served by resorting to live-action roleplay with nerfguns than suffering though the NES or Master System titles. Developer Teyon hopes to bring us out of this national nightmare by releasing [a href=http://www.rambovideogame.com/#]Rambo: The Video Game[/a]. If the title sounds redundant, that's because from Part II on, the movies pretty much are games, just without the whole playing part. In addition, Sylvester Stallone and Richard Crenna will reprise their roles as John Rambo and Col. Trautman. By reprise, I mean the original movie voice tracks will be used.

According to publisher Reef Entertainment, the game will be "triple-A" quality and intends to "capture the gritty atmosphere and full-on action which made the Rambo movies so successful." To do so, Rambo: The Video Game will be based on the three original movies and feature "shoot-outs, stealth killings, demolition, knife-play and more." Already, it sounds much more authentic than the original NES game, which mainly pitted Rambo against snakes and butterflies.

Teyon is previously known for their rail shooter series [a href=http://www.teyon.com/games/heavy-fire-afghanistan/]Heavy Fire[/a] and [a href=http://www.teyon.com/games/crazy-chicken-pirates-dsi/]Crazy Chickens: Pirates 3D[/a]. With a pedigree like that, it's hard to tell if Rambo: The Video Game will be a true first-person shooter or a match three game. If the screenshots mean anything, it'll look shiny (and have rainbows).

Rambo: The Video Game is set to be released later this year for PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. Who knows, maybe John will get to win this time.

The whole "capture the gritty atmosphere and full-on action" makes me think it will be like Rouge Warrior for some reason. Maybe I'm just pessimistic about a game based on a movie franchise and wanting to be "gritty".

I really cant see this being any good. Maybe if linked to the last movie Rambo would have been better. But will have to wait and see when they release the trailer.

Are you telling me that 200 of our men against your boy is a no-win situation for us?
You send that many, don't forget one thing.
What?
A good supply of body bags.

Playing a First Blood game is going to be a little weird.

You're probably right, but the fact that the original voice tracks will be used makes this a bit interesting.

I cannot see this being any good. I mean the original story is about a person so displaced due to war reacting to violence and societies knee jerk reaction to that.

while there is action aplenty the story isn't an action story behind the scenes
, it actually had emotion and depth.

I can't see them doing it any justice ( especially after mentioning 2 and 3 which are just action trash). don't get me wrong I like action non-thinking movies as much as the next beer swilling guy, but this could be better.

I know titles shouldn't be used to judge what is and isn't a good game, but when something is called "Franchise Title: The Video Game" I already begin to wonder how bad it will be.

I feel a RAMBO video game would be well received round about now. Mainly on account of Game story writing is a good 30 or so years behind other formats. This would fit in with the absolute shite we have to put up with these days.
