PS Plus Sweetens the Pot With Spec Ops: The Line

March is shaping up to be a good month for PlayStation Plus users.

During March, Sony will be adding five games to the PlayStation Plus Instant Game collection lineup, presumably in a bid to convince me that actually buying games is a waste of money.

The following games will be released at various intervals throughout March (the list order is random):

Spec Ops: The Line (PS3)
Joe Danger 2: The Movie (PS3)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (PS Vita)
The Cave (PS3)
Tekken 6 (PSP; Supported on PS Vita)

As usual, PlayStation Plus users can download and play the games for free (not counting the cost of the PS Plus subscription) for as long as their PS Plus subscription lasts. A PS Plus subscription will run you $50 for a year. Considering the games on show (including the excellent Vanquish, which was added last month), that's not a bad deal.

The March update also comes with the usual assortment of deals and sales. Charming Vita platformer Dokuro can be had for $9.99 or $6.99 for PS Plus members (normally $19.99). Blazblue: Continuim Shift Extend is being dropped to $17.49 and $12.24 respectively (normally $24.99). Other discounted games include Orgarhythm, Sine Mora, Retro City Rampage and Kyntt Underground.

The focus on Vita titles isn't a coincidence; this march marks the handheld's first birthday. To celebrate (or perhaps commiserate, considering the poor device's abysmal sales) Sony is offering $10 store credit for every $50 you spend on PSN. The credit will be sent to you on or around April 12th.

Disgaea huh? This Instant Game Collection thing has been wonderful so far, so another game will be nice to have!

Also, quick question to Vita owners, how do you delete games off your memory card?
Hold down on the icon, click delete, but remember that it also deletes your save so whack it onto the cloud first

Wow, Spec Ops.

That's awesome! I know I held out on the game for a reason. And now I get it for free! :D

On the Vita main menu, hold your finger on the screen for a few seconds. It'll make the apps pop up for rearrangement and you'll see a little white bubble on the top right corner of the apps. Click the white bubble and it'll let you delete the games.

Disgaea huh? I'll give that a try.

I wonder how long it would take to hold off on buying Zero Escape before it comes on PSN+...

God bless you Sony. I beat Spec Ops on the PC but I'm a trophy person...so I'll give it another go. Not to mention I finally get to see why everyone loves Disgaea so much.

Another fine example of the greatest subscription service in video game history. :D
Except that all the free games go away once you cancel your subscription.
That's what a subscription service is, champ.

WOW... that actually sounds like a neat, sweet and delicious deal.

Quick question, I don't have a PS3 so I really don't know how PS Plus works, so, my question is, if I buy a subscription (assuming I get a PS3 sometime) to PS Plus, will I get to play all of the already available games for PS Plus?, or will I get to play the games they decide to release from the time I decide to subscribe?.

In other words, if I subscribe, say, in may, will I get to play the games they released for PS Plus in march?.

EDIT: Already answered :)

I was also evicted from my flat when I stopped paying my rent.

OK, I didn't, but thought it was a nice comparison.

How it works is like this...

If you "buy" a free PS+ game, you can go through your download list and redownload it. However if you don't, then after a month or so, the game that is free will no longer be free. If you had downloaded it or "bought" it during that time however. You simply go to to the download list and redownload it.

Ohhhh, so it's pretty much like GOG's limited time free games offers, I think I get it, thanks for the reply!.

Oh boy, more old games that are only a good value to somebody who's just getting into 7th gen gaming and are completely useless to everyone who keeps up with game releases! Awesome job Sony, I can't wait to not give you $50 so I can get in on "free" Spec Ops because I've already owned the game for months now!

The difference between you and PS+ers is that you don't go around the internet spouting off about how great your free flat is even though your flat isn't actually free because you have to keep paying money to live in it. In order for something to be free, it both has to cost no money and actually be yours. The games on PS+ cost a yearly fee of $50 and are not yours forever. That's not free, that's a rental. Just like your flat.

Considering you get nothing like this with XBox live gold and still pay PS+ is good value, its not just the instant games either. You get 1 hour trials of any game, even those without a demo. You get discounts on just about everything in the PSN store, you also get loads of free themes etc (stuff M$ makes you pay for) and some other stuff which is subjective in its use. Like the automatic updates, I find it somewhat useful myself. Never tried to play a game and find it needs an update and cannot play until its done, you just set it to turn your console(s) on when you are in bed or at work and it updates every game you have saves for and updates the console.

PS+ is also better value if you own a Vita, the account applies to that too and you get all the same features. The games for that are newer too. Currently Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush and Wipeout 2040 are all up there with a bunch of other games.
