Jak and Daxter Trilogy Jumps to the PS Vita

Soon you'll be able to take the PlayStation 2's dynamic duo (well, one of them) anywhere you go.

When you think of the PlayStation 2, a few iconic franchises come to mind, and chief among them is Naughty Dog's Jak and Daxter saga. The duo were two of Sony's poster boys - well, one poster boy and one poster ottsel. That fame may be why the series refuses to be forgotten, even as its successor's console generation comes to a close. February 2012 saw the series ported to the PlayStation 3 in an HD remastering (the Jak and Daxter Collection), with the core trilogy available on one Blu-ray disc. Still, there are console-less gamers out there who have yet to experience the legacy of the Precursors, so Sony is preparing to release another port. This time, the trilogy will be coming to the PlayStation Vita, spinning and shooting its way to the portable audience.

Slated for a June release, the Jak and Daxter Trilogy includes the three core titles of the series: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, and Jak 3. The games will take advantage of the Vita's touch interface in some mini games, though don't expect the fundamental gameplay to be any different from the console versions.

For the shameless PlayStation trophy collectors (you know who you are), the Vita trilogy contains a full set of trophies for each game. That means you can nab six Platinum trophies between the PS3 Collection and the Vita Trilogy. Just, you know, in case you're a huge fan of the series, or if you're that desperate to prove yourself to strangers on the internet.

Jak and Daxter is a classic series, and well worth checking out if you haven't before. The Trilogy doesn't include the obligatory kart racer Jak X: Combat Racing (which is a shame) or the PSP spinoff title Daxter (which may be for the best). The Jak and Daxter Trilogy will be sold for $29.99.

Daxter wasn't that bad a game, though it was admittedly irrelevant to the plot.

I got stuck on one part of Jak 2 for ages. It was an escort mission. -_-

When escorting the kid from the hideout?

I know I was stuck on that part for some time.

Jak 2 was my favourite game in the trilogy though.

OT: Hurry up June, I want this for my vita.

Daxter's available on the Store anyway as a PSP title, so there'd be no point in them re-porting it. I liked Daxter, one of the games I got when I bought my first PSP.

Might get round to buying this, I was on the Ratchet & Clank side of the fence during the PS2 era and couldn't really afford to play both, but now that I have actual money (hence why I bought a Vita) I can play these without having to borrow my housemate's loud, slow and old PS3 (until I buy a new one after exams)

Escorting 3 dudes through a sewer or something. Kept getting swarmed by enemies. Can't actually remember how I beat it in the end.

I forgot that part, I didn't have as much trouble with that one as with the kid escort mission. Cause, enemies everywhere, shooting. >.<

Though I really wanted the port of Okami HD to come to the Vita...

This is also pretty dang cool, I never played any Jak & Daxter game (Except Daxter... Though I dunno if that counts, but it was good) I'd really like to try it, hope it turns out great!

I do not have a slowpoke image slow enough to describe this news post. Oh well, I'll be getting this when it comes out anyway. Love me some J&D.

Bought this game on PS3 last year. Other than a pretty nasty cutscene glitch towards the end of Jak 2, it was a decent port. Curious what they're doing with that touch pad though since not a lot of those minigames seem to require it. Maybe for Onin's game (btw, fuck Onin's game). I platinumed this magnificent bastard last month.

Oh man, that's a tricky one. I can get through it with relative ease (though when I do lose, it's really irritating to hear the voices run through their cycle again), but I will tell you it's commonly viewed among the hardest of the game's missions. Other notable examples include fetching the seal in the water slums, the underport missions, blowing up the eco wells, the stadium races, Erol's street race (fuck that mission too), and blowing up the eco tanker.

Wait...Daxter is seen as a bad game? I thought it was in the 80s territory and one of the better PSP games out there? Sure it's the least necessary game in the trilogy (just a cute game where you play Daxter for more than 3 minutes), but it looks fun. Hell, Jak 3's plot was downright painful at times. I want that game to be ported to the PS3, guys. Shut up and take my money, Sony!

Though for Jak X, it REALLY needs to be ported. Not only is it the only game in the series that is multiplayer (local and online), but the original PS2 version has a really nasty glitch. I don't know if it corrupts the game save or the entire card, but it was never patched and there is yet to be a version that won't cause the game to derp like that. A port to iron out the glitch and give Jak and Daxter fans a multiplayer sounds like a pretty damn good reason as opposed to the usual "give it a new coat of HD paint to get more money out of classic games".
