Surrealist Indie Stealth Title Draws On Thief Plus Dadaism

Take care, the developers advise; carelessness has its consequences.

Tangiers is one for the surrealists out there, a Thief [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123021-Thief-Teaser-Steps-Out-of-the-Shadows]-like title which has you creeping through immense, symbol-laden landscapes, inspired by the likes of Dada, Man Ray and Throbbing Gristle. Perhaps you'll plan a careful infiltration so as not to be seen at all, or gather up the discarded words of strangers so you can later fling them down the street to act as a distraction while you sneak past. You can explore its open-ended world as you see fit but, the developers warn, "carelessness has its consequences."

This is a labor of love from the very small development team at Andalusian Games. The title's taken from William Burroughs' work, and - in tribute to Burroughs' cut-up writing method - the world reshapes itself as you interact with it. "Fragments of previously visited areas will become mixed with undiscovered areas," Andalusian says, "building an experience unique to each play-through."

For those who want more, there's a Facebook page over here [http://www.facebook.com/TangiersGame] you may want to take a look at. This title is scheduled for a mid-2014 release.

I always thought stealth and exploration is kind of a weird mix, since it's kind of contradictory almost. But the game looks nice.

The sentences "Symbol-laden landscapes", "inspired by Throbbing Gristle", and "carelessness has its consequences" are very quick ways to get me to throw money at you. I'm curious just how inspired by Throbbing Gristle this is...the "disturbing" band that invented industrial music decades before Nine Inch Nails even thought about it.

(don't read the lyrics in the description if you're squeamish).

Yeah, I definitely want to play a game inspired by these things.
