Vita Gets its Own Indie Games Section

Vita owners can now browse through a handheld edition of the PlayStation Store's Indie Games category.

It was not too long ago that the PlayStation 3 became the lucky recipient of its very own Indie Games section in the PlayStation Store. Created to highlight indie titles available on the PSN, it helped to show off the growing repertoire of titles available via the PlayStation Network. Now, Sony is extending the Indie Games section to the Vita, hoping to further expose portable players to its independent library.

"We're happy to announce that the [Indie Games] category is now available on PS Vita," said Don Mesa, director of product planning and platform software innovation for SCEA. "This will help PS Vita owners discover the latest indie games, and as you can see in the video above, there are a wide variety of games available today as well as many that will hit the store soon." According to Sony the Indie Games section on Vita will contain a total of fifty-three games at launch and claims that there are more than fifty more currently in development for the platform. "We're proud to support indie development, and our unrestrictive policies make it easier than ever for developers to launch games on PS Vita."

Whereas some of Microsoft's recent practices have led to highlight independent games that would be joining the PlayStation family, including some that would be debuting on the PS4.

Is it as hollow and empty as the Vita section of the PlayStation Store once you take away all the PSP and PSOne games?

Vita is actually getting quite a lot of indie devs to put their games on the vita. Recently we got limbo, hotline miami, thomas was alone, machinarium. Soon we'll get Lone Survivor and later down the line the binding of isaac remake. And theres some other stuff already there to.

Now we need to fill up the other sections of the vita because right now, it's 90% indie games for 10% thirdparty/first party publisher games...although thankfully Muramasa Rebirth came out recently

Hmmm. I might get a vita now, it's starting to sound appealing.
Three words then:
Persona 4 Golden.
Thank you for your attention.

Even the Vita is beating the Xbone now.
that or sony stole their indie section and microsoft had to cover it up by acting as if they got rid of their indie section intentionally

Now drop the price on memory cards, and I'll buy more games.

It has way more games than comparable sections. So...Maybe five.

Almost every game you mentioned I've had on another format for a long time :/

The Vita needs something more than indies, it needs a big first party push, cheaper storage and a better value proposition at it's current price (£180 for the system I'll pay, but the memory cards are fucking extortionate proprietary shit).

I want to see the Vita succeed but it needs a lot more than indie games to do so.

This is one of the things I like about the vita, I prefer portable gaming whenever possible and I would have never bought any of these indi titles if they weren't on vita (Limbo, Thomas was Alone, soon to be Hot line Miami). I wish Lone Survivor would hurry up and get ported...
