Call of Duty: Ghosts Reveals Preorder Bonus Map

Gamers who preorder Call of Duty: Ghosts will receive a free multiplayer map built around the game's new "dynamic map events."

Call of Duty: Ghosts is coming in November, but gamers who lay down their money for it now will find themselves also possessing Free Fall, a downloadable multiplayer map featuring the "dynamic map event" mechanic that changes the nature of the battleground as you play. Free Fall puts players into a skyscraper on the brink of collapse, in which elevators run parallel to the ground and windows have become alarmingly transparent floors. As the match continues and the skyscraper grinds and slides, the increasing destruction results in changing pathways, chokepoints and sightlines.

"Dynamic map events change the way players approach the game, and Free Fall does a great job illustrating this new mechanic," Infinity Ward Executive Producer Mark Rubin said. "As the match progresses, the geometry of the world continues to change and players need to adjust on the fly or else. It's a really fun new feature that adds layers of strategy and constantly evolving gameplay options for players."

Free Fall will be included with all pre-ordered copies of Call of Duty: Ghosts, but the rest of you will have to pay for it, although how much it will cost hasn't been made official just yet. Call of Duty: Ghosts will come out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 5, and is also being developed for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

They are a bit late to the punch there, anybody that cares about "Dynamic Map Events" already has Battlefield, which has every map with "Dynamic Map Events" instead of just the 1 map.

But guys, they were totally working on this map way after the game was finished. Don't worry though, you'll be lucky enough to pay for it if you really want it. Or just pre-order it before the reviews some in.

Yeah...New generation but I'm still avoiding CoD like the plague. I'll watch a let's play of the campaign at best.

Okay, maybe I'm wrong but as a developer is it really smart to split your player base right out of the gate by having two different groups. Those with the pre order map and those with out. What happens if your pre order map becomes insanely popular and is put into 99% of standard map rotations. Then you've got a segment of your playerbase who can't or only infrequently plays with the other segment. It just seems really dumb to me.

That's the exact problem that came up with the "nuke-town" pre-order map.

So this is just more chasing short term profits at the expensive of long term ones? Fantastic. I love the corporate world, where the only thing that matters is the share prices today, and not the fact that you've just sawed off your own foot.

it isn't just CoD, Battlefield 4?

entire expansion pack already available to those who preorder the game.
Not that I'm even going to bother getting Battlefield 4 but at the very least, one could argue the value of an expansion pack vs. a single map. One that will probably wind up becoming a ghost town because it excludes anyone who didn't pre-order or pay extra.

It is getting pretty fucking ridiculous at how calculated dlc and expansions have become though. I can just imagine everyone getting together and saying: "okay, how much can we slice out this game without getting too many people pissed off".
Next step will probably be "pre-order now to get 10% of the NEXT sequel"

The Nuketown 2025-thing was a bit different. There were ways to still get the map post-launch (Retail or Digital Deluxe Edition) and everyone got it about half a year later anyway. That was actually alright, considering it was only one map.
Don't think that's going to be the case this time, however.

The second Battlefield 4 DLC is about remaked maps of Battlefield 3, those terrible awfull empty vanilla maps of BF3. They can probably just hit import and half the work is done.

These 2 franchises are just making money by barely doing anything.

Just a new map? Lame.

What happened to the days when preordering gave you something significant, like a bunch of maps/characters/other goodies?

Man I remember those days, when buying a "Collector's Edition" was something sought after, that you had to spend six hours in line for the midnight release to get, because it had wicked goodies inside. Now it seems every shovelware game I sell has "Limited" or "Collector's" or some other title that implies you're buying something special, and not the same crap you can get at the next store over.

On topic, as far as CoD is concerned, this is innovation in the right direction, it's not going to make me buy the game, I have Planetside 2 to temper my bloodlust, but it's kinda neat, I might borrow a copy from a friend and play a few matches.

if the pre-order maps become insanely popular they will be extremely happy, because that means that anyone who wants to play COD will pay for COD AND the map. double profits.

I saw maps beign revorked to work on a new game engine. its nowhere close to being just import. you have to pretty much write the whole engine vconverter program, which means that the guy writting it has to know how both engines work and what action in one would result in another. so theres double the knowledge needed than just making a new map to begin with. secondly even after that conversion is done, due to engine differences there are a LOT of rough stuff to polish. maybe now you cna jump somewhere you couldnt before that completely destroys balance, maybe there are a bunch of places a player gets stuck in due to importing difficulties, there is a LOT Of bughunting, you pretty much go though the whole map with a magnifier glass.
there are people that will tell you that making a new map is simpler than porting an old one to new game engine.
now, im not saying whether those maps are good to beign with or not or anything like that, just purely from the "its not as easy as it seems" perspective.

I don't know, it sounds pretty nice. Being a preorder bonus does make me hate thir guts though, thankfully I won't have to think too hard considering I wasn't going to buy it at all.

Except there are millions of gamers who won't touch Battlefield no matter how good it is.
