Destiny Clip Offers A Proper Introduction To Bungie's Latest

[youtube=gIp7vZuYzoA

Bungie just released 12 minutes of gameplay footage from Destiny, the studio's first project since leaving the Halo franchise.

Consider that video embedded at top-right to be a very early Christmas present for all fans of Bungie. It's 12 minutes and 19 seconds of gameplay footage from Destiny, and while technically it's a rehash of what Bungie showed off at the recent E3 conference, the footage here features higher resolution and more polish than the prior presentation.

Why launch this video now? Didn't Bungie receive enough adoration at E3? Of course it did. People love Bungie. However, this week the firm is celebrating Bungie Day, so in keeping with tradition Bungie is tossing out all kinds of content to fans. "Each year, on the seventh day of the seventh month, we take a moment to thank the members of our community for their passion and enthusiasm for our games," writes Bungie community manager DeeJ. "We'll be releasing Destiny goodies all week long, and you're invited to the party."

We'll be reporting on any other major items Bungie unveils over the course of the next few days, but in the meanwhile, how about you react to the clip above? Since Bungie is best known for the Halo franchise - there's a generation that knows the company exclusively through those games - it's to be expected that there would be a few similarities between Halo and Destiny, but has this gameplay footage convinced you that the two properties are too similar? Too disparate?

Are any of you currently sobbing and hoping against hope that Spartan John 117 will make a cameo in Destiny?

is anyone else thinking it looks like a bit of Rage and Borderlands with some Mass Effect biotics thrown in... not a bad thing though

Identical footage with different voices and commentary...

Now which one was the original set of voices that played the game?

Color me disappointed on this one.

Thats not how people talk on the internet. I am outraged!

OT: Looks good, only sad it is not coming to PC. Might have to get myself a console for that alone.

Yeah, I saw this footage a few weeks ago online and it looks just like Borderlands but on 'Future Apocalypse Earth.' It still looks nice, but it's getting over hyped IMO.

I saw this footage at E3. It's still impressive as fuck. It looks like what would happen if you took Borderlands, Halo, and a dash of Mass Effect RPG elements and combined them all into one game.

I really hope this one lives up to the hype. It looks so awesome!

The gameplay looks about as real as Colonial Marines

And oh look.... another dystopian world with rusty things and rotting buildings scattered about, haven't seen that in such a long while.. Ohhh but see the pretty, shiny graphics, surely that means this will be goo-pppthhhhththtpphhh

Reminds me way too much of Halo. Not sure how good the SP would hold up on PC to be honest.

I really don't understand all the hooplah over Destiny - I haven't seen anything thus far that indicated it's anything other than a run of the mill post apocalyptic FPS - Borderlands was serviceable but the appeal ran out pretty fast as you shot your way through endless swarms.

I haven't heard enough about those either, but I've read a little about multiplayer. Multiplayer will be handled similarly to how Guild Wars 2 is handled. Players on one (server/world) can join up or piss each other off by meeting each other on circumstance (being in the same area at the same time), but (from the demo) you can invite people or get dropped off near others. I believe it said meeting people in the wild would not be a PVP type encounter, so maybe there is friendly fire except in certain arenas?

Though shinier why does this game make be think they have ripped the gameplay and look from that epic fail of a game Brink?

I know that feel, but its like pre-alpha or whatever. I'm sure they'll have something more solid to show by the end of the year.

The dialog is so bad. I dunno it just seems like FPSes are adopting more and more MMO features these days and they don't really appeal to me. Especially the heavily instanced stuff.

I'm definitely excited for the game. I was a huge Halo fan and while I eventually got a little worn out on the Halo mythos, I always enjoyed that great Bungie made gameplay. While the footage was nothing new or interesting given that I'd basically seen it before during E3, it still looks very good.
