Skyrim Mod Adds Dishonored's Signature Abilities

The Gifts of the Outsider mod adds six new abilities through a quest featuring fully voice-acted Outsider.

Here at The Escapist, we love Dishonored [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125961-Skyrim-Mod-Falskaar-Adds-20-Hours-of-Gameplay], so you can imagine our excitement upon discovering a mod that combines the two. The Gifts of the Outsider mod adds six of the most iconic signature abilities from Dishonored into Skyrim, and features a new quest with a fully voice-acted Outsider.

The six new abilities are as follows:

Blink: Leap across distances instantaneously.
Void Gaze: See in darkness and detect beings through walls
Devouring Swarm: Summon a horde of rats to distract or kill your opponents
Possession: Take control of a being, appearing directly behind them once the effect has ended.
Wind Blast: Blast away your opponents with a powerful gust of wind.
Bend Time: Slow time to a crawl for everyone but yourself. Great for escaping a difficult situation

You can begin the quest by heading to abandoned houses on the shores of Lake Honrich, west of Riften. If you wish to add the spells without completing the quest then simply use the help command from the console menu. Use help "" to return the spell id. Then use player.addspell to add it.

If you want your Dragonborn to channel Corvo just a little bit more, you can also download this sweet custom Lord Protector armor and weapon set [http://www.youtube.com/redirect?q=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F95412214%2FDishonored%2520Lord%2520Protector%2520Set.7z&session_token=J9GkU0nlIwSWtabxwyaM_nH1snV8MTM3NDEzMDIyNkAxMzc0MDQzODI2].

It's a neat little mod for those of you craving more Dishonored action after hearing about it's latest (and last) Skyrim Nexus [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126029-Dishonored-The-Brigmore-Witches-Ends-the-Tale-of-Daud]

It's a long time since I played Skyrim but aren't at least a few of those basically reskins/tweaks of existing spells and shouts? Nevertheless that is a sweet idea and well done. If nothing else then adding Blink and Devouring Swarm will add to the potential japes in that game. Hooray for mods.

Okay, that's pretty damn cool. I'm not a really big fan of Skyrim, but I love what people are doing with it. I might check this one out. Blink especially would see a lot of use from me.

Hooray for blink, a way to get across Skyrim quickly. Some of these look really good including the bend time spell. I might try these out when I get my computer working again

I thought the voice I was hearing might be James Marsters, but it was not.

Blink would be so deliciously broken. I wonder If I could be Dawnstar and blink to the top of the Throat of the World, and from there...anywhere.

Voice acting not too great, but the powers are well done. As a papyrus scripter, I appreciate each of the technical challenges creating those powers must've presented. I'd love to see the behind-the-scenes of possession in particular to see what workarounds and tricks they used to achieve the effect.

It's also a big nod to Dishonored, that someone has taken the time and effort to create this. You know a game/IP has done well when it's ideas get incorporated into mods. There are already Thief's water arrows, The Witcher outfits, characters and weapons, Wolverine claws, Dragon Age stuff, etc.

You don't like the voice acting? I think he really nailed the Outsiders monotonous, dead inside tone.

OT: There have been some really detailed Skyrim mods recently. There was an Armor set that worked with Bosmer lore, this Dishonored mod has tried to work itself into the setting (or at least loosely explain what the Outsider is doing in Skyrim) and the Escapist just reported on the massive unofficial expansion that adds a new land mass with unique voice acting and quests.

..

Well, there goes my next month.

It's not the voice acting, it's the...quality of the recording maybe? It's the distinction between something recorded professionally, and voice recorded on a headset mic. I realise it's being picky, but that's not an unfair criticism and in no way reflects the amazing polish and technical voodoo that made the mod. As a scripter I'm already trying to work out what functions they used and it's very impressive.

And yeah, the Falskaar one looks awesome too. I'll be starting a third playthrough as soon as I build myself a new haswell/GTX780 beast in the next month or two. I want my next skyrim playthrough to be with everything maxed, best textures, etc. Gonna get some mods for a druid playthrough I think.

Adding the powers to skyrim is all very well, but dishonored had some of the best level design i have seen in a long time, that took advantage of the skill set.

Really? I couldn't get through dishonored. The level design never jumped out at me as great but it didn't seem bad either though. Mostly it was the silent protagonist and the rather silly story. The trailers made it seem like Corvo was a guy who sold his soul to get revenge for those that killed his queen and caused him to dishonor himself.

But no, you get helped out of prison by a group of revolutionaries with vague motives, and then you take a nap and this guy shows up like "hey man here is some cool powers, have fun!"

It all just seemed so lazy. Plus I found the gameplay to be really easy as well. Maybe it's growing up on Thief but Blink just seemed way to easy for the sneaking.

Thief is a stealth game, Dishonored is a superhero game in which you can sneak. I would have made Blink an upgrade that you have to purchase though, and only given one tier of it. I'm all for players coming up with ingenious ways to cross levels in a heartbeat, but the second tier upgrade for it did seem to stretch incredibly far.

Ya maybe I went in with the wrong expectations but the game seemed to be marketed as a stealth game. Though maybe that changed during development just like how Corvo didn't actually make a deal with a powerful entity, or anything like that. The guy just showed up and said "yo man heres some powers have fun."

Umm... Yeah, I would not put a link to Corvo's outfit. Judging by the UV layout, the polycount, and texturing, this is a direct rip from the game, and it's very likely don't have permission to do this. These sort of things are rather rampant on places that aren't fully associated with mods or, to say, "not fall under jurisdiction of US law". However, that doesn't stop some people; there's several who will still put rips on Steam Workshop (which, as reported here on The Escapist, caused a stir when an Aion mace accidentally became an official weapon for DOTA 2 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119006-Valve-Drops-the-Hammer-On-Infringing-Dota-2-Mace]), or on Nexus without the proper permission (the TERA, The Witcher 2, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R assets are allowed with expressed consent of the asset owners). Yet, bad things even happen to unofficial stuff, as people steal rips from other games and mods from games like Skyrim and sell them on Second Life Marketplace, and it's a pain to get them off.

So here's my suggestion when it comes to official and custom content. Treat every asset with the utmost respect, no matter who created it. If you want to use assets in something else, be it official or custom content, the very, VERY first step you need to do is ASK PERMISSION FROM THE ONWERS. Not asking means you deserve every ounce of disrespect, attack, and legal action you get from whoever, be it the creators, the users, or the officials.

Again, if you feel that your skills in recreating assets that you like aren't up to par, and would rather convert an official or custom-created asset to Skyrim or any other mod-supported game, and wish to share it with people, ASK PERMISSION FIRST. If you like using mods, I suggest that you support original mods and faithful recreations of content from other games. For rips or stolen content, no matter how interesting it is, be vigilant and report it to the respective owners. Modding is meant as a channel for creative and original thought, and to express fandom and love of any series. Thieves and scoundrels should not be welcomed here.

As far as I remember what's depicted during the CG trailer is exactly what happens in the game, albeit in a different place. And I doubt that where the gameplay is concerned, it's an Immersive Sim made by people who have a history of making Immersive Sims. They also demoed both gameplay styles.

Okay, that's fair. I think professional sound equipment can get expensive which would explain the lower quality audio in a fan made mod, but it still means it doesn't sound as good as the rest of the game.

I haven't played as a druid, but I got about 30 hours as a Khajiit warrior and now I'm around 60 hours into playing as a Bosmer archer who's also a werewolf. The werewolf part I'd considered curing after the Companions, but it's just a lot of fun. Doesn't do wonders for a conceptually Neutral Good character when you've spent a good deal of time eating people, though.

Good luck with your new computer. I've been playing Skyrim on low or medium at 128x720 resolution because my graphics card is having trouble and I'm running things on Intel's integrated graphic. It's not powerful, but it's reliable enough to get the game running at a decent frame rate without looking like complete ass.
