Escape Radio Episode Four

It's time for Escape Radio, the audio program with its ear to the ground, a foot in the door and its heart in the right place. This week, while The Escapist crew is in Austin for AGC, we're bringing you part two of our exclusive interview with Bethesda's Todd Howard (Executive Producer of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and the upcoming Fallout 3), talking about Shawn's adventures in Saint's Row and more from the land of the living dead; Russ brings you tips and tricks for Dead Rising. This week's show features an original theme and music by award-winning composer Ian Dorsch [http://www.willowtreeaudio.com].

Despite the fact that I happen to like the name Grand Poobah, I thought you should probably know the actual definition of the name, cos you obviously don't know and your "friend" in the programming arm of the escapist isn't as much of a friend as you think............ (mabye Russ DID do it?)

Grand Poobah - The name has come to be used as a mocking title for someone self-important or high-ranking and who exhibits an inflated self-regard.

Seems to be quite fitting actually, on a similar sort of level to how Torquemada is fitting for Russ

LordCancer,

That's a great question. Thanks for asking that.

The issue of level scaling in Oblivion neither slipped my mind nor was part of any silly pre-interview agreement. As far as I know, nobody actually makes those kinds of agreements anymore. If you ask them a question they don't want to answer - they don't answer it. Or, if they're somebody like Microsoft, they'll have a PR flak in the interview with you who will interrupt if something touchy comes up. Like when I spoke with Microsoft Casual yesterday at AGC.

I asked Todd about Oblivion and changes the team will want to make for Elder Scrolls V, but since the they're still working on Fallout 3, he wasn't too interested in talking about that. In fact, I believe his exact words were something like "I'm not going to talk about that." Not very compelling. So that part of the interview hit the editing room floor.

I still want to know where they're headed with Radiant A.I. and level scaling, and plan to follow up once they get Fallout 3 out the door and are ready to talk again about Elder Scrolls. Stay tuned.

Dude, they're working on "different stuff."
*sigh* Which doesn't sound like Fallout at all. Really, all in all, not a console guy and not an Oblivion player. Limits the points of interest on these pod casts.
Your negativity is minty and refreshing. Thanks for giving us all a sip.

Btw, More Cowbell sounds like "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult.
Yeah, it's meant to. It dates back to the old days of GWJ Radio when Russ would ask me to do knock-offs of certain popular songs that were just close enough to the originals to recognize but not so close that we'd have to pay royalties. :)

I didn't notice it at first, cos its damn close to unrecognisable, but the chamber music mix of the theme is great. well done.

Thanks, man! I'm glad to hear that someone was able to pick it out in there.
