The Official Lego DeLorean Is Finally Here

You can buy a Legofied version of Back to The Future's iconic vehicle for just $35 at any official Lego store.

The Lego Cuusoo project is essentially a Kickstarter for Lego products. Previously, online shop [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114534-Mojang-Making-Official-Minecraft-Legos]) for just $34.99 US.

The Lego DeLorean can be customized to match the look of the car in each of the three movies. It comes with Marty and Doc minifigures, and sports some rather impressive details, such as a flux capacitor, a California license plate reading "OUTATIME" and a dashboard time travel-ometer reading "Destination time: 1/28/1958."

The Lego DeLorean is the fourth kit produced via the Lego Cuusoo project, where any idea that reaches 10,000 supporters gets officially reviewed by Lego in the hopes of becoming a legitimate commercial product. The DeLorean was designed by two Japanese Lego enthusiasts, who are donating a percentage of their sales cut to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

If I recall correctly, this was actually meant to have been released in 1985 to tie in with the film. However, someone accidentally threw the prototype model across a room at Lego HQ and it just managed to reach 88mph air speed, sending it to the future, which is why we've only got it now...

I love the idea, but I think they should have made a larger version that costs maybe double price. This thing hardly looks like a car, much less the iconic DeLorean. HIGHER RESOLUTION!

Looking at the past lego Cuusoo projects, it seems that Lego is pretty unwilling to sell something outside of the $50 range, and I agree with them on that front. Sure, BTTF has a lot of fans, but are there a lot of fans willing to shell out $100 for a big set? This $34 set is most likely to catch the eye of fans passing by, or even kids, and still sell well.

Then again, Lego DID recently just publish a whole line of fucking lone ranger lego sets so I don't know if I trust their marketing department much...

Sure, I can understand their reluctance to produce large sets as well, but damn, the design they went with is ugly.

Not a perfect resemblance of course, but a damn sight better than that thing they want to sell to fans of BTTF.

Actually the Lone Ranger sets have by all appearances been selling really really well. Probably better than tickets to the movie. The Lone Ranger gave them an excuse to release some really nice Western themed sets. Something they have not done in years, and that many fans were clamoring for. One other weird thing. The Lone Ranger sets have also proven very popular with young girls for some reason that nobody predicted?

The boxiness of the hood of the DeLorean is because it's designed to let you swap in parts to make other versions, including the BttF3 box of tubes and parts on the hood. Personally I am not thrilled with how it looks, but there are a few really good looking fixes that have been published, and at least one that I know of that doesn't need any extra parts.

Really? That's quite cool. The Delorean is an awesome car, It's nice that there is a Lego model of it, even if it isn't fantastic looking.
