Konami To Re-Issue PS2 Classics

Missed Silent Hill 2 the first time round and want to know what all the fuss is? Konami to the rescue!

Konami has confirmed that it will be re-issuing several of its classic PlayStation 2 titles, but you're going to have to hunt around a bit to find them.

"We've manufactured certain amounts depending on the title," said a spokesperson for Konami, "and they're being bought by wholesalers so will likely pop up in independent rather than chain stores."

The games on the list are Suikoden Tactics, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, with Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4 following on.

"They are proper reissues," the spokesperson said. "Konami has put them out at budget price because of demand. They are re-manufactured. They are ours."

Konami claims that the games will be priced between £10 and £20, which is around the $20 - $35 mark.

Fantastic news, if a bit delayed. Will definitely be getting the second Zone of the Enders game, and perhaps Snake Eater, although I reckon they should have re-released Subsidence if the expanded version of MGS2 is being re-released.

I suppose it's too much to ask for them to give the same treatment to Suikoden I and II, but well done Konami all the same.

Any sane person already has Silent Hill 2 in their possession.
Then again, they'd probably be insane, having played it.

I've never played Silent Hill 2, but I've been meaning to for a long time...

Maybe I'll pick it up!

When I saw the article title I was hoping for a collection of games on a PS3 disk, possibly graphicly upgraded. Oh well. Silent Hill 2 was the best.

Why not also release a downloadable PS3 version for those of us who bought newer PS3 models? Or at least some sort of software emulator? Hellooo?

I think they are fed up of so many people buying their games for $10-20 second hand and not getting a penny for it. Some crisp new re-releases will not only be more appealing but they get a cut of it rather than Gamestop.
And they might as well do this now as PS2 is really on it's last legs.

YES! I really, really wanted to try Silent Hill, but the new games apparently aren't as good as the first few. Which is better to try if I've never played Silent Hill - the second or the third?

Oh thank the lord, that means other people can play the game as well. I had huge trouble finding it and eventually settled for an eBay copy at the steep price of £40, this was less than two months ago. The game is rarer than gold ;/

Cool to see them reissueing games though.

I'll probably pick up MGS2+3 again for that price. My copies have gone missing/damaged and I'd like to keep them in 'stock'.

I missed out on Silent Hill 2 and feel a little bad for it. I'd been a little bit misled about the game's content (that it relied on gross-out more than psychological horror. Thankfully, I've learned this is anything but the case) and instead buried myself in Fatal Frame. Looking back, I really should have made time for both.

ZOE2 is probably one of the few games that has genuinely enjoyable escort missions. It makes me sad when a game gets a 'rare' status because it means the game is going to get objectified as an 'item' instead of an experience. Of all the things games should be, rare is not one of them.
