Natural Selection 2 Gets Reinforced With Second Free DLC

To celebrate the release of Reinforced, Natural Selection 2 is having a free weekend and 75% off sale.

Science fiction FPS/RTS hybrid Natural Selection 2 has just received its second free expansion pack, and to celebrate, the game will be free-to-play all weekend, as well as enjoying a 75% off sale. If you've yet to try this tactical multiplayer masterpiece out, now is definitely the time. This update is of course 100% free, but if you want to, you can donate some extra cash and earn some cool rewards doing so with the new "Reinforcement Program" [http://www.naturalselection2.com/reinforced/].

Reinforced, which follows the here. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122235-Natural-Selection-2-DLC-Adds-Gorge-Tunnels-Railguns]

Unknown Worlds have made it very clear that making expansions like this paid DLC, or introducing micro-transactions, is something that doesn't fit with the company's culture. However, six months of game development does cost a packet, and in an attempt to recoup some of those costs, they have introduced the "Reinforcement Program." The Reinforcement Program is basically a virtual tip jar with rewards. Players can donate as much or as little as they want, with Kickstarter-style reward tiers for those who give generously. Naturally, all of the rewards are purely cosmetic, and you can check out a quick summary of how the system works through this video. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gozvm5P7vzY]

The free weekend and sale last until this Monday, and I very strongly urge you at least check this one out!

I might finally pick up this game. From the steam page description it looks like this game supports mods, I wonder if someone developed any cool vehicles.

No vehicles yet, sorry (except for the exosuit) but the mod support for this game is AMAZING! It has everything from entirely new game mods like Combat (which removes the RTS aspect of the game and has marines and aliens gain "experience" through kills which can be used to purchase upgrades), to alternate models (such as an ALIENS power-loader model for the exosuit)

Oh well, maybe someone will eventually get around to it. I have always had a soft spot for bouncy suspension.

Also I am buying it now.

Ok, this is one of the few times I'll actually give a tip.

I hope Unknown Worlds reaches its goal, currently it stands at $29,956 with 399 contributors.

The problem I'd see for vehicle development is a lot of the game takes place in cramped hallways. A vehicle would have difficulty maneuvering in them. Besides, most of the benefit from a vehicle (enhanced speed or offense/defense) is taken care of by other equipment or evolutions (jet packs/phase gates/exosuits/gorge tunnels/lerk/fade/etc.). Still, it also has one of the most supportive/patient communities I've seen in a multiplayer game, especially one as complex as this.

I've wanted to get this game for a while, but my computer can't run MP games (TF2 clocks in at 2 FPS) and I'm currently broke, otherwise I'd be giving them a $75 tip right now. Not many devs have such a trusting relationship with their consumers, so I wish Unknown Worlds good luck and hope they reach their goal.

Wide open maps where the aliens are forced to rely entirely on stealth while the humans rampage down multiple forested paths from point A to B in 150 tonne, 20 meter long, turreted, 8x8 mobile fortresses (with bouncy suspension!!! Never enough Bouncy!!!). First the air and long range attackers take out the external sensors so that the low to the ground aliens can sneak through the tall grass and low vegetation while the larger ones drop down from trees onto the transport and into weakened hatches. The the smaller ones sneak past the single seat attack jeeps, tanks, and mechs before finding entry points in the bottom of the transport. The alien's own living tanks knock over trees and cause landslides to impede the progress of the transport allowing easier penetration of the hull followed by a full on frontal assault. Said assault distracts everyone allowing the stealthy slaughter of the transport gunners and crew before penetrating the hold and slaughtering the defenseless colonists and their boxes of grumpy kittens.

I however do not know if the game could support a mod of such magnitude!

Played it last night for free; it still wasn't worth it.

If you like banging you head against the wall I suggest you try this out. It's shallow, repetitive and having a commander giving orders doesn't seem to help one bit. There are plenty of free shooters out there that are much better than this.
