Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica Still Working on PS4 Debuts

Naughty Dog and SCE Santa Monica have been quiet on the PS4 front, but rest assured, they aren't slacking off.

The PS4's release date looms ever closer, and its confirmed lineup has some big names on it. Still, a few developers were notably absent - namely, Sony mainstays Naughty Dog and SCE Santa Monica Studio. The two studios developed the Uncharted and God of War series, respectively, and fans have been waiting for the announcement of their next-gen debuts. Nothing has been revealed so far, but Sony's Michael Denny says that both developers will be arriving on the PS4 soon enough.

"We didn't announce their titles," Denny says. "You know, the reality is that we announced a lot of triple-A, a lot of PlayStation first party and third party. I think [Naughty Dog and SCE Santa Monica Studio] have done some quite big games on PlayStation 3 recently, yeah? That's why their PlayStation 4 debut will come a little later."

Naughty Dog released The Last of Us in June and still supports it with multiplayer content [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127277-The-Last-of-Us-Gets-New-Interrogation-Mode], while SCE Santa Monica released God of War: Ascension in March. Trying to rush development of a next-gen game in time for the PS4's launch window probably would have ended badly, so it's fair to expect their next triple-A exclusives to take a little more time to create. Both are definitely working on something, though. Whether it's more from Nathan Drake and Kratos or something else entirely, we'll have to wait to find out.

Lets hope that those games are not another Uncharted and God of War, but something fresh.

Oh god, I hope it's not another Uncharted or God Of War. Hopefully they are being allowed to do new things with the new tech.

I would gladly, but sadly, wait a few years for Naughty dog's next game.

They such a good games developer. So anything they put out is worth waiting for to me.

I kinda want them to return to the cartoony roots really. We already have enough "realism" in this industry and need more toony things. It's why W101 and Knack interest me so much, and it's also why I love Ratchet and Clank because while some of the more recent Ratchet and Clank games have been somewhat serious, they've at least been funny and definitely aren't "realistic."

I don't know.

Of Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, and Insomniac, I feel it's really been the latter that has dropped the ball quite a bit this gen. They've been wasting their time with Resistence, trying to establish completely unnecessary Ratchet and Clank lore (last lombax, my ass), and making R&C based party games.

Anyway, wasn't Santa Monica working on that new steampunk IP or something? And I hope Naughty Dog doesn't do something stupid and makes another Last of Us, since that game ended pitch perfectly.

Well while I'm not the biggest fan of the Resistance series, the games after A Crack in Time were a bit lacking. For the Future series I still found them funny at least, and the gameplay was great which is what I look for. All 4 One was different, but still made my friends and I chuckle a bit, but there is no excuse for Full Frontal Assault...>.>
Let's hope Into the Nexus is good since it's returning to single-player gameplay and is being considered the epilogue game to the Future series.

My main thing though is that I want more cartoony and whacky games, which seemed to not be very plentiful this generation which makes me sad. Mainly it's probably because I'm not really a huge fan of "realism" or many shooters for that matter. (BioShock series is an exception)

Naughty Dog for the love of god please bring back something cartoony. I miss your fun loving side. You'll make me buy a PS4 if you do. Srs face.

I am sooo aching for something NOT action hero, gun slinger adventure with 'realizitix graffix' and edgyness shit. I'll even take you dragging Crash and Jak kicking and screaming into the development electric revival chair if it means I can just have something entertaining.

I WANT MY CARTOON MASCOTS BACK IN ACTION OKAY? ENOUGH WITH THE REALIZMS. All we get is Sonic and Mario and they're quickly dancing to the same tune year after year these days. (And please don't make me recommend a WiiU to my family, I'd like to have something playable when I visit...before SuperSmash bros' release date is inevitably pushed to the end of 2014...)
