Minecraft Meets Mass Effect In Xbox Exclusive DLC

The first "mash-up" pack for the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft will set you back $4.

Ahhhh, Mass Effect and Minecraft, together at last. Mojang and Microsoft Game Studios have teamed up to announce a Mass Effect-themed "mash-up" pack of downloadble content for Minecraft. The pack will set you back just $4, and contains skins, music, textures, a UI re-skin and a pre-built "Mars facility" world.

This is all provided of course, you're playing the Xbox 360 version of the game. PC gamers will simply have to dry their tears by downloading one of the several free [http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/mass-effect-skins---anyone-interested/] Mass Effect Minecraft mods available.

The pack contains 36 new skins and 22 music tracks ripped straight from Mass Effect 3. The video shows our reskinned heroes exploring the "Mars facility," and showing how Mass Effect 3 may have played out if it were slightly more... blocky.

The Mass Effect mash-up promises to be the first of many such packs developed by 4J Studios. It will be available on Xbox 360 starting September 4, with no word on whether or not it will make it to the Xbox One version of the game when it launches later this year.

What do you guys think? Will you be forking over $4 to make your Minecraft more Mass Effect-ey, or will you give this one a miss? What Minecraft mash up would you be interested in seeing?

So it's a texture pack? Because I'd be highly tempted to get it if I can make stuff in a new texture as I've gotten really bored of minecraft since we haven't had any new textures.

Wow that just made me realize how fucked the console guys are in this... also interesting that those $4 do not include the most basic death animation.
Makes me wonder how much money people could make on selling the millions of map/texture/mod packs they already made for PC.

I'm guessing someone will find a way to bring the content to the PC, even if PC already has pretty much any texture pack you could ever want.

Eh, build a fully functional Citadel complete with 5 MASSIVE cities to fill out the Wards and a functional "ring-world" for the Presidium and then you'll have my interest. As pretty much everyone else - including the article - has pointed out: you can get the same kinda thing for free on the PC version.

Why get a texture pack, when you can go play Star Made(Minecraft in Space) and actually build and fly your own spaceships. The Alpha is Free.

I think some people forget to realise that not everyone can play Minecraft on their Laptop/PC, Some people only have basic Laptops/computers and most of them people can't be bothered upgrading there system, and would rather pay $4 for content on XBL than a few hundred to upgrade their system.

For me? I'll be getting this, as my laptop Struggles to load the world and lags severely. So, this suits me perfectly :)

It does look cool, but how hard is it to actually build with it? I've been making my own texture pack, and I've had the hardest time making everything look cool and still make sense in a variety of situations.
Oh, well. At least they have asari.

On the one hand, I love the irony of this being posted on the same day that Jim's video was all about developers over-charging for DLC that's basically just skinpacks that used to be free back in the day. That said though, I think this would fall into his acceptable ranges, since it's $4 for a shitload of skins and other stuff; compared to the example he was complaining about, which was $5 for just one skin, and the game had several skins to download.

36 new skins, a new texture pack, an awesome looking world save, a new theme, and a new soundtrack all for $4? Yeah, that's a pretty good deal for that kind of DLC. Good thing, though, that I have a good computer, that way I can get all of that for free. :)

Yeeeeeeah...... I'm there. My kids and I will all buy the packs and have a blast. I did the achievements for Minecraft but quit playing it after that, but my kids still love it. Looks like this will bring me back to playing it as well.
