Rockstar/GameStop Giving Away Custom Sports Car From GTA V

GameStop Rewards members can use their PowerUp points to enter for a chance to win a custom Banshee sports car.

Grand Theft Auto is a game that naturally deals with a lot of cars. Most are pretty average, while others are rust buckets you'd only grab because the fuzz is on your tail and you need a set of wheels. Standing on the tip-top of GTA's fictional auto heap however, is probably the Banshee. Slick, shiny and fast, it's one of those cars you never pass up when the opportunity to snag one arises. Now, Rockstar and GameStop have teamed up to give away a real world version of the Banshee, and you won't even have to shoot anyone to get it.

Built by West Coast Customs at Rockstar's request, the real world Banshee is a one of a kind vehicle based off of the virtual version featured in the soon to be released Grand Theft Auto V. The Banshee was made "utilizing state-of-the-art fabrication technologies" to be an "accurate reproduction of the Banshee" from the game." The car's interior "was handcrafted and stitched to capture the look and feel of its detailed cockpit, with seats upholstered and embroidered with the Banshee name and insignia." Gamers interested in a chance to win the Banshee can head over to the GameStop's <a href=https://www.gamestop.com/PowerUpRewards/PUR/Enter/EpicRewardSep13>PowerUp Rewards site where it's being featured as an Epic Giveaway item.

All in all, we'll rank this is as one of the coolest items we've seen a developer give away to help promote its game. That being the case, we'd love to see more like this in the future. For instance, a custom version of the Grand Theft Auto tank would be another vehicle we wouldn't mind parking in our driveway. We imagine the neighbors would stop nagging us to mow our lawn after that.

I wonder if it shares any components with the Dodge Viper, the vehicle it's clearly based on. Even if it doesn't, I bet a lot of people are going to confuse it for one. The interior looks quite a bit like a 2006 Viper's, that for sure.

Hmm... I see. So I wonder if they ever realize what happens to these kinds of vehicles? IIRC I saw a CoD Black Ops Jeep for sale once, and that came out in 2011...

Then again, I could enter, win the car, sell it to the highest bidder (that can actually afford it), and then buy a car that I can actually afford on my salary, and save the extra cash. Reality bites, but hey, that's going to be (or eventually will be) the case for most entrants.

Meh, like most fictional cars it just looks like a bad Hot Wheels version of the real deal. I mean look at that front, that just looks lazy.

Edit: or, if you're a fan of hot wheels, just replace it with the words "chinese knockoff", still valid.

I wonder if it'll be like the game where it takes ages to find one then as soon as you get in one they appear everywhere.

Banshee's always been my favorite ride! Probably only get as far as a block in that thing before the slippery tires cause me to plow into a pedestrian.

I don't think there's a single more iconic car in any GTA game than the banshee. Back in GTA 3, I'd go by 8ball at least twice a day just to steal the car from the nearby store. It was the best shit ever, rockstar knows their audience

Only ever the blue one though, 'cause the red one just looked weird.

I wonder how much it would cost to custom order one of these. They already have all the schematics...

Well that's pretty cool. I probably have a few of those Gamestop Rewards points sitting around unused and unloved anyway.

Of course like someone else said earlier, if I were to win it there's not way I'd keep it. Sell it to the highest bidder, then head down to the Chevrolet dealership to buy a Camaro ZL-1 and pocket the surplus funds for... I dunno, more games?

So its an ACR with body kit and interior touches. Even free, It would still be cheaper to set fire to your wallet.

Found that it's definitely based on a Viper, but can't find the specific model used or any of the modifications were done. The West Coast Customs site is surprisingly mum about the specs; none of the other news sites seem to care about the details; and the car forums are filled with nothing but baseless speculation.
I dug a bit deeper and it's definitely a 2006 Viper under that skin. Look at the steering wheel and climate control unit: they're identical to the ones sitting in a Viper's dash, though they remade the dash panel and reorganized the vertically oriented gauges to a horizontal layout, and deleted the original radio unit and A/C vents. I'm guessing that since it's a Viper it'll probably have the V10 from that era.

What's with all you people saying you'd sell it? Its one of a kind! Sure, I probably couldn't afford the insurance on the thing, but I can't imagine selling it.

Hm. I thought it looked really good in GTA4, but it looks fairly generic in real life. They should've made the GTA3 version with the huge bonnet.

That being said, the fact that they made that themselves and is one of a kind is amazing. Do we have any specs?

According to the official rules listed on Gamestop's site:

"The Grand Theft Auto V Bravado Banshee Sports Car is a used 2013 car that has been customized to resemble the fictional Bravado Banshee Sports Car from the game Grand Theft Auto V. "

Considering the rules also go on to state the car's "approximate retail value ("ARV") of $180,000," it could be possible it does have a total engine change to be a V8TT, though honestly I kinda doubt it. Most of the cost probably went into the massive re-fabrication of the car. Though the are a lot of differences in the interior, custom cars do sometimes have massively changed interiors as well.
