Why are we hearing about this? Are they owned by that company that owns the escapist as well? Cause that show is basically memes and those aren't too popular here.

I'm starting to wonder as well why this obscure (what I'm going to guess is a YouTube series) show has suddenly received top billing on The Escapist. Did they drop off a dump truck full of money for the publicity at the office doorsteps or something?

I like Dick Figures enough, hell, I followed the series since the debut of its third episode but this exposure on the Escapist is painfully, painfully out of place to me. It honestly feels more like advertisement glossed over as news reports.

I think it's worth talking about because it's a good example of an online only, crowd funded success story. It's a piece of internet culture, consisting of internet culture, sustained only by the internet.

And I think it's ridiculous to think they paid The Escapist to talk about it. In the article it says they didn't need to pay a cent for advertising. Their fans, that 350,000,000 lot, were following the movie and spreading word about it the whole time. These guys are making millions of dollars like this, isn't that a big deal?

:| you think they have 350M fans?
350M views the article says, maybe 100M are actual fans, whatevs, still a huge number and note worthy.

If people are blowing off this accomplishment because they think the show is infantile they should just say that.

You're misinterpreting the numbers. "Dick Figures has been a popular web series for three years, racking up over 350 million views on Youtube" Their movie hasn't gotten 350M or even 100M views.
