Arma 3 Story Campaign DLC Launches This Month

Arma 3 is finally getting its promised story content, along with additional tools for content creators.

Arma 3 was a unique entry for the series in that it never had its own story campaign. <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/10220-Arma-III-Preview-A-Taste-of-Brilliance>From the Early Access period right until <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126861-ArmA-3-Release-Date-and-Limited-Edition-Confirmed>its recent launch date, Bohemia Interactive focused on showcase missions and third-party creation tools, with plans to offer story content down the road. Thankfully, fans who were hoping for an actual storyline with the latest Arma engine now have a launch date in sight: Survive, the first of three planned DLC chapters, will arrive free-of-charge for Arma 3 customers on October 31, 2013.

The first campaign episode centers on Ben Kerry, a soldier taking part in a NATO peacekeeping operation <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121854-Arma-IIIs-Greek-Island-Gets-a-Name-Change>on the completely fictional island of Altis. As withdrawing troops leave the island as part of a staged drawdown, the opposing CSAT faction moves in to fill the vacuum, eventually sparking a new conflict with little in the way of reinforcements.

Bohemia Interactive has a lot more planned for Survive than just Ben Kerry's story. Content creators will also get access to even more tools that can be used when designing custom missions. "Of course, it's not just about our own story, but another opportunity to provide yet more building blocks for the platform," creative director Jay Crowe explained. "New weapons, animations, 3D objects, scripted modules - each designed to grant content creators even greater freedom to create and share their own content. Looking forward to the forthcoming episodes, we'll continue to expand Arma 3's sandbox with additions such as new vehicles."

Survive will be followed by two additional chapters, Adapt and Win, in the coming months.

If I don't get to fight Golden Dawn I'll be very disappointed.
Just buy a ticket to Greece, buy two dozen eggs, have at em!

OT: I am rather excited, while I have been kept busy with custom created missions (of which there is no shortage of on steam) I have been getting anxious without a proper story driven campaign.

Stop calling it DLC, DLC is something you buy,its optional. This is am update that adds content. Im rather exited to see this, although the campaign will most likely be "ok" Im sure they are going to do things that will give map makers ideas to add to their own design.

As much as I look forward to an official campaign, I will tell you now mate that while OFP1's campaign was good, ArmA was ok and ArmA 2 improved, the best missions have usually been community made. That's where the strength of the game lies and I'm glad to see BIS focusing on that first, then giving some nice missions 2nd.

DLC stands for Downloadable Content, it does not require that to be sold in any way and can just be some extra items they've added in. Other games also give out free DLC.

I personally found (outside of the voice acting) OFP's campaign to be the most enjoyable and each consecutive one to be less so. On the other hand all of the user created content for Arma 1 and 2 I found to be unpalatable (personal preference) while Arma 3's just keeps me coming back for more. :D

Snake...
Snake.
SNAAAAAAAKE!

Ultimately I find Arma 3's more responsive controls to be a major deciding factor in my enjoyment thus even if the campaign is lackluster the gameplay will make up for it. :)

Oh I agree, OFP's campaign is the best hands down as far as official missions. Unofficial depends what your after, I enjoy domination and Warfare with friends, don't usually bother with SP much except with missions I muck around with myself.
I quickly got tired of how 90% of the community made missions were special forces sneaks in to kill &/or sabotage because "your elite" crap real fast. All the same thing, if all I wanted was to be on foot I'd play CoD. Where's my gunship!

Huh, after all the fuss about this during its development I had no idea it had even been released yet. Doesn't sound like I missed much if they haven't actually released the game part of the game yet.
