Blizzard All-Stars Becomes Heroes of the Storm

Blizzard has changed the name of its upcoming MOBA from Blizzard All-Stars to Heroes of the Storm

Last month, Blizzard filed a trademark application [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128276-Blizzard-Trademarks-Heroes-of-the-Storm] for a game called Heroes of the Storm. At the time, we had very little information about what Blizzard was planning to do with the title, and if I'm being honest, we still don't know much. However, we can finally stop speculating about an announced game, or a World of Warcraft expansion. Heroes of the Storm is simply the rebranded title for Blizzard All-Stars.

"Yep, we've changed it again," reads trailer's YouTube description. Blizzard All-Stars, which was formerly called Blizzard DOTA when it was announced in 2010, is a free-to-play MOBA in the same vein as League of Legends. Players will take control of their favorite heroes from the Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft franchises.

Even though the trailer is chock-full of adorable violence, it's extremely light on details. Blizzard is saving those for BlizzCon. "Set aside whatever you think you knew about Blizzard All-Stars," the description says, "and get ready for what's brewing at this year's BlizzCon (Nov. 8-9, 2013)."

Blizzard isn't exactly known for its punctuality, though. So, it's probably a good idea to adopt a position of patience when it comes to Heroes of the Storm. The game is currently being beta tested, and even though BlizzCon is only a few weeks away, there's no guarantee that the game is going to hit the market any time soon.

I can't believe they announced this change with a Carbot Animations video. Not that I'm complaining, Carbot is awesome.

I have to say that is a much better name. Blizzard Allstars was a pretty lame title.

I think this is going to be free to play (what else would it be, we don't want another HoN >.>) and I am actually looking forward to playing it.

I like all of Blizzard's franchises and playing their heroes/champions in a Dota style setting is just grand.

Oh Blizzard, you realize the dramatic irony that you're entering an already-claimed marketspace against multiple juggernauts ready to eat your game as a snack?

Well, wasn't that roughly the opinion people had when they went and made WoW? People already had EQ and such, who needs another?

So, does HotS = Heart of the Swarm, or does HotS = Heroes of the Storm?

I R CONFUZED!
SC2:HotS is Heart of the Swarm, HotS = Heroes of the Storm, then again they may choose to rename it once again so who knows.

On the topic however, I hope they add something new genre, otherwise they are playing off nostalgia more than anything else, and you cant live off nostalgia alone.

As Jim once said when discussing Amy:"AHAHAHAH."

Is this a joke?!?!

You know the scenario in which a puny man turns up for a fight after school because he's got just a little more pride than strength OR sense? That's what this awful announcement reminds me of.
