Ellen Page Nudity in Beyond: Two Souls Triggers Aggressive Sony Response

Sony is working madly to scrub fully-nude images of Ellen Page's Beyond: Two Souls character Jodie Holmes from the net, leading to speculation that the actress might be considering legal action.

Ellen Page's appearance in Beyond: Two Souls has become a whole lot more revealing than either she or Sony intended, thanks to the slightly creative use of a PS3 dev kit. It turns out that a shower scene featuring her character Jodie Holmes was rendered with naughty bits and all, and then covered up for use in the game, which of course meant that a simple change of camera angle revealed the young Ms. Homes in all her unclothed glory.

Sony's been dropping the hammer on anyone hosting the images for non-specific "legal reasons," but they're still pretty easy to find at this point - and no, I won't be linking them. And while a Sony PR rep clarified that "it's not actually her body," the company also described the situation as "very damaging for Ellen Page" and was apparently seeking to have any coverage of the matter taken down from web sites in order to "end the cycle of discussion around this," although by now it's probably given up hope of that actually happening.

Page herself hasn't yet commented publicly on the matter but Sony's frenzied response to the appearance of the images has led to speculation that legal repercussions could be in the offing. At the very least, it raises some rather awkward questions about Beyond: Two Souls mastermind David Cage: Why would he, or anyone on the Quantic Dream team, rendered Holmes' body in full detail - and I mean, full detail - for a shower scene that was intended to be covered up? And how is it that nobody at Quantic or Sony saw this coming? I'm not sure that characterizations of Page as a "victim" really ring true, since it's really just a matter of her face being shopped onto a CGI body, but it sure doesn't cast anyone on the production side of the coin - and particularly David Cage - in a very good light.

Removing something like this form the internet...oh Sony & Page that's just precious.
Now excuse me while I go laugh up a lung.
Seriously is their legal team run by brain dead chimps? Trying to legally threaten people for taking a picture of a game, I hope they try and take someone to court and someone counter sues the shit out of them.

I love everything to do with David Cage's games. They're always such clusterfucks of bad storytelling, poor design, and uninspired pseudo-occult bullshit. You're never bored with them! They're just too awful to be bored with. This is just the cherry on top of his latest Shit Sundae.

Honestly though, I'm not surprised by this. Seriously, not at all. Has everyone forgotten Cage's last nightmare of an "experience", Heavy Rain, where we're introduced to our female protagonist by ogling her in the shower for a disturbingly long time, and then we get to watch her get assaulted by a bunch of masked men and... frankly, possibly raped?

It's a dream sequence but that doesn't make the whole thing entirely disturbing, and NOT for the reasons the designers wanted it to be.

Well, I guess David Cage got too much emotion into the game than Sony and Ellen Page wanted.

Yeah, if you give people access to a CGI doppleganger of a real life celebrity, you're going to best bet that people will exploit it somehow.

Just googled it, it's underwhelming to be honest. And if you've watched the latest Jimquisition you'll remember that David Cage likes to put pointless sex and nudity in his artful masterpieces QTE-fests, so it's not really a shocking revelation. I wonder if they are going to patch it out somehow, since the screenshots will just keep showing up until they do.

While I admit it took a lotta courage to actually put a fully-nude character model in a AAA game and I will give them credit for covering it up and not making a big deal of it... yeah, unless Ellen Page consented to being rendered au naturel and inevitably being exposed when people started looking in the files, I think Page and Cage should sit down and have a talk.

Also... how old is Ellen's character in that game? Just looking at that mugshot, she looks like a teenager.

So when I went to google images I got a lot of pictures of Jodi Arias and now I hate myself for googling it. Didn't wanna see that psycho ever again. Turns out I spelled the name without the E, my derp. Now that I've fixed that and seen what all the fuss is about, well, it's a naked woman in the shower. I fail to see what the big deal is, she's about average for a woman, neither fit nor fat, it's not some horrible atrocity.

Hmmm. Is this what you mean by "emotion" Dave? Having a secret nudie vid of Ellen in full detail. It would make me "emotional".

I would think the answer is startlingly obvious.

Y'know, as long as the character portrayed is over 18 I don't really see what the big issue is. (Admittedly I've never played the game so she might not be... I also honestly don't care enough to play and find out)

Fuck that! Where's my Willem Dafoe nudity!?

But aw man, first Ellen Page gets confused for being in a way, way, way better game, and now this...

David Cage really can't stop skeezing all over his virtual leading ladies.

That could lead to trouble for sony.. if ellen was not made aware that the figure would come with... well.. "full equipment"

And no matter if its a cgi body.. thats still her face on there. Thats the same as if you shop the face of a person into a porn picture and then spread it around. It is reputation damaging.

Captcha: too late

How very fitting for the toppic... after all if something hits the interwebz it stays there....

Forever!

Ellen Page's reputation is utterly ruined, she'll have to pick work in a strip club... or worse. /sarcasm

Seriously though I've been on the internet long enough to know that there are nude or pornographic pictures of a great deal of celebrities, and judging by what people have described of the picture it's not a big deal. It's not pornographic and distasteful, it's just her character taking a shower.

I would suggest there is going to be a cover up but clearly they're not very good at them.

Still, another notch on the bedpost for the lumbering hulk that is the sex question in gaming.

Ellen Paige's contract will have clauses about unauthorised nudity/demeaning content (I mean, more demeaning than being the face of a Quantic Dream game). Putting 'her' nudey body into the game and then making it accessible, even by back door (no sniggering) means probably has entire armies of lawyers springing up out the ground like Spartoi.

First Ellen Page gets mad at Naughty Dog for allegedly ripping off her likeness, and now EMOTIONS Cage is making nude models of her. Not a good time to be this actress.

The game is set in different times of the character's life, ranging from her childhood to her adult years. The part where she is showering is somewhere around her 20's, I believe.

Why would you render her bits if you aren't going to show them? Wouldn't it have been much easier to make her look like a Barbie doll?

Oh, Ellen Page is just going to love Sony after everything that has happened this past year. First, there was the whole Last Of Us apparent lookalike thing, and now this.

Also the Streisand effect is going to be in play now, now Sony has brought attention to it, it's going to be everywhere.

Well, she's about to be in X-Men: Days of Future Past, right? So...there's that.
