Netflix & Amazon Round Out PS4 Streaming App Lineup

There will be no shortage of viewing option on PS4.

You may buying a next-gen console for the games, but let's face it: Most of us use it for other stuff too. For those of you wondering about the PS4's access to the wider world of media, Sony announced the set of third-party entertainment apps that will be available on PS4 when it hits stores November 15.

The list of 11 apps is made up entirely of video streaming services. You probably won't be surprised to find that Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant will all be available, along with a variety of niche services like NBA Game Time and anime service Crunchyroll.

Here's the full list:

Amazon Instant
Crackle
Crunchyroll
Epix
Hulu Plus
NBA Game Time
Netflix
NHL GameCenter Live
Redbox Instant
VUDU
Yupp TV

Sony will also have its own Unlimited Music and Unlimited Video services ready for launch.

The announcement comes shortly after Sony revealed the will support DLNA and CD playback [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129167-Sony-Releases-Ultimate-FAQ-for-PS4-No-Support-for-External-Hard-Drives].

I demand DVR hardware in my consoles if they want to be a media center. Hrmf.

I'm liking the sound of having crunchyroll on my PS4. May finally be able beat some PC games I've had to put on hold to watch anime.

I thought things like Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Amazon Instant are available in most first world countries? They are the only things I could think of that most people would use on a regular basis.
As a CSA, Amazon Instant Video is North America only.
Uk doesn't have it, and Japan doesn't have it, so i think it's safe to say.

Europe is a streaming wasteland. Netflix is only available in UK, Ireland, NL and Scandinavia. The rest of us can choose between a small number of crappy local services. Amazon Instant Video is US-only.

You can get crunchyroll on your PS3 in the UK but its a bloody arse ache as you have to make an american account, then download the software for use on your non US accounts, and it still works normally with a UK sub. For...Reasons...

God if it wasn't for 4OD and iplayer I'd give up with streaming in the UK.

BTW for Netflix in the UK, Id say that it has less than half of the content the US has, i got netflix to watch all the WWE DVD's it has, NOPE US only.

Exactly - as far as I can determine just looking at that line-up, none of them will be of use in my region.

I'm pretty well unhappy with the lack of MP3 support, but the hardware...well, I have a decent sized stereo for a reason. And I can always hook my laptop up to a tv with an HDMI cord and use Unified Remote to control it on my phone. But c'mon, no mp3 support?

I will probably still get a PS4 because I've enjoyed the Sony exclusives and hate the ad-riddled mess that is Xbox Live, but I also just might delay it longer. I was looking forward to maybe being able to play mp3s and game from the same audio output. I have no idea where I got the idea that was going to be a possibility.

As for the streaming apps, they seem pretty popular on PS3, so I can't say I'm surprised they're available day one.

And out of the 11 services exactly 0 are available in my country. Sigh, tricking Netflix into thinking im not where i am may be harder on this thing too!

PS4 does not support ANY CD media it does not have the laser to do so.

You should be careful with any Bluray player either standalone or for PC as many now no longer have CD laser's either.
Really? i was under the impression that the DVD/BR laser could read CD if necessary as well. this is sad as it means when this dvd drive dies ill loose acess to my CDs. oh well time to move them to DVDs quicker then.

That implies that crappy local services even exist :p
You know, i can understand why my countrymen pirate so much. Want to buy dvds? only russian crap for sale. Want to stream? you have to go to extended lenghts to trick netflix into thinking your in UK, want to import? sure if you want to pay half of your wage for a single movie.

CD, DVD and BluRay all require there own individual laser that's why to make them cheaper lots of BluRay players are dropping CD support so they can become as cheap as DVD players.
I see. Makes sense i guess. Then again, most people dont really use CDs that much. Though my univeristy still require papers to be given in in CD format for archives, but i think by the time no-cd blueray players become popular they will change that (then again they still dont know how to use office 2003 smetimes....).
Yeah, i really should go and pull my stuff out of my CDs into other backup devices (i got external HDD that i bought specifically for long term storage. It gets turned on once in two weeks to update with new data and then jsut sits in the cupboard. Because this pile of 660+ DVDs were getting very spacy....
