Previously expected to hit theaters May 22, 2015, the film adaptation starring Michael Fassbender will instead arrive August 7, 2015.

The release date for the big screen adaptation of Assassin's Creed by Ubisoft Motion Pictures has been moved to August 7, 2015. Production company New Regency Pictures balking at the company's demands [https://twitter.com/NewRegency/status/400739226062307328] for creative control. While there is still no news as to which dashing cloak-and-dagger assassin Michael Fassbender will play, New Regency confirmed that shooting would begin sometime next year.

Fassbender, who played the android David in Prometheus and Magneto in X-Men: First Class, told The Daily Beast [http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/10/16/michael-fassbender-opens-up-about-12-years-a-slave-religion-and-assassin-s-creed.html] last month that he had heard of Assassin's Creed but has not played the game. "I don't have a video game player ... that's not what they're called," says Fassbender. "I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting - the idea of reliving memories."

A director has not yet been announced for the film. British playwright Michael Lesslie penned the first draft of the script. Rewrites for the script are being done by Scott Frank [http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/16/4627256/wolverine-screenwriter-set-to-re-write-assassins-creed-movie], the Academy Award nominated screenwriter whose recent work includes both The Wolverine and Marley & Me. Take from that what you will - Frank obviously knows how to adapt beloved material into satisfying screenplays.

Oh hey, if they don't delay it again I'll be able to go see this on my birthday (the 18th).

Y'know, if I want to feel suicidally depressed.

Again.

I like this actor, but it's a shame that he doesn't take it seriously enough to play the game for at least a couple of hours.

At least Uwe Boll has nothing to do with it.

An Assassin's Creed movie?

Does that mean it'll have a trillion sequels?

Last I heard he was playing Altair... a couple of hours of game play and he still would be walking around without hidden blades and wondering why, every time he tried to walk fast, he was arrested!

Oh boy... the whole comment about "not playing the game" and "only going on the plot alone" doesn't exactly bode well.

But at the same time, Assassin's Creed opens up a lot of opportunities for a unique, original film within its own universe. While seeing a film adaptation of Assassin's Creed 1 or 2 would be great, I would be lying if I said that I didn't want to see some professional scriptwriter take his stab at making a unique story with the Assassins, Templars, and the Animus.

And then it will be moved to Christmas 2015, and then sometime in 2016, and then important people will drop out, and then it will go into Development Hell, and then it will disappear, and then it will come back in 10 years, and then it will finally release, be mediocre, and then garner an inexplicably massive cult following.

Welcome to movies...
^^ This guy gets it

That being said there are going to be a lot of things (leaping from 200ft into a haystack anyone?) that are going to have to change if they want to make a decent movie adaptation. But I think I'll keep my expectations low for the time being if it's all the same to you guys . . . .
