Playing a PS4 Through an Xbox One is... Not That Bad

It works! It really works!

You knew someone was going to do it. Somebody was going to take advantage of the fact that the Xbox One has both an HDMI input and output, and play the PS4 using an Xbox One. Well they did and, believe or not, it actually isn't a terrible experience. By "they," I mean the tech-sleuths at Digital Foundry [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWxVPsyMs_0#t=19], who tested how running one next-gen console through the other would affect their respective performances.

Microsoft confirmed earlier this year that, yes, players who owned both consoles would be able to play the PS4 through the Xbox One [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128102-Microsoft-Confirms-PS4-Will-Work-Through-Xbox-One-HDMI-Port], but did not recommend it: "...Long story short it won't be a great experience," said Xbox exec Albert Panello.

As it turns out, Panello's assessment was dead on. According to DF, you can use an Xbox One to navigate the PS4's menus, open apps and play games without any hardware crashing issues. There is a fair amount of lag, though, so it probably isn't the way to configure your consoles.

Meanwhile, plugging the console into itself [http://kotaku.com/you-can-play-an-xbox-360-through-an-xbox-one-through-an-1467884928].

The Xbox One hits stores this Friday, November 22.

So, does this constitute PS4/X1 rule-34?
If so, then HURRAY, the internet has delivered again.

Also: Would have expected the Xboner to just start insulting you for as long as the PS4 was plugged in.

Welp, I'm sure there will be now. Oh Internet, you do crazy. XD

OT: Well, to me it seems the delay is similar to how an HD PVR is when recording something. I honestly thought the delay would be worse.

Apparently, the PS4 is so good that even the Xbone wants to be inside of it. :D

[sub][sub]I'm so sorry.[/sub][/sub]

OT: Ya know, I was wondering what people would do with the ins and outs of the thing, and lo there's an answer.

Not surprised about the lag though, but still impressive that they managed to do it.

It was actually working great, then after a couple of hours the Xbox One got processor cramps, and a PS Vita burst through the CD tray, killing 4 innocent Wiis and a toaster before they finally managed to suck it into the vacuum cleaner.

I hear Ridley Scott bought the movie rights.

I feel like I'm being dense here just by asking but is there any actual point to doing this? I mean I know it opens up a whole new world of XBone jokes (as if we were ever going to run short) but is there some benefit I'm not seeing that you wouldn't get by just plugging the PS4 straight into the TV?

Alas, DVS BSTrD [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/DVS+BSTrD], I do miss you so.

Speaking of which, did you see this explanation [http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/opinions/the-8-worst-parts-of-prometheus-explained-in-the-original-script-jsarg.php] as to why Prometheus sucked so hard?

Regarding the OT, I wonder if people will take advantage of this or if this will go the way of the Dodo? It's interesting how most products have these cool features that not a whole lot of people seem to take advantage of, like the ability to load MP4s onto the PS3, the network adapter for the GameCube, and (shockingly) LAN support on console/PC games?

Well, the PS4 is XBOne-compatible! There's something to be said about console homogenization when you can play one console through another, without special hardware or software. Sure it's not efficient or useful but in computer terms, this is like installing Windows on a Mac.

Still, I have to wonder... why would you do this? Not enough inputs on your television?

My mind exploded. We need more gadgets with HDMI inputs.

I believe it was to see if it was possible. There really isn't a reason to do this. My own TV has 3 HDMI inputs and I currently have one still free. So, no, there is no reason. But they tried it just to see. Truly where no man has gone before.

Now that looks like when you input an HDMI based capture card onto your PC, or what XSplit looks like when I'm gonna go live. XD
The never ending abyss of the screens! Glorious!

Sorry if I've missed sarcasm, but you do know that you can already install Windows on a Mac right? Mac has a thing called bootcamp so you can have the Mac OS and Windows installed at once and when you turn it on it asks you which you want to use.

I do still think it's cool that you can do this though. I know the way it works is completely different, but I also find it kinda funny too how the XBOne isn't compatible with it's predecessor's games, but running it's competitors system is absolutely fine.

The lag is there because it takes time for Xbone to process the HDMI input. that doesnt matter for something like TV, but something where you need to make input and see reactions you will see problems with it.

To be honest, even body of a homeless person rotting near a dumpster is a better love story than Twilight
