Twitch Cracks Down on PS4 Playroom Inappropriate Content

Twitch banned a channel that a couple used to stream video of themselves drinking and undressing in the PS4 game The Playroom.

Launching with the PS4 was the ability to host livestreams and easily share live footage of a videogame with others. Twitch, one of the livestreaming platforms, is moderating the user feeds with the Live from PlayStation PS4 integration, and has restated its strict user policy, stating that "non-gaming content is not allowed."

Some PS4 users have used Twitch in conjunction with the PS4 game The Playroom, which uses the DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation Camera to create an augmented reality experience. Twitch banned one channel [http://www.twitch.tv/darckobra/tos_violation] for streaming content from The Playroom in which a couple allegedly drank to unconsciousness. Later in the stream, the man lifted the woman's shirt. After a brief blackout, the broadcast resumed, and the woman was naked.

A Twitch spokesperson issued the following statement to Kotaku:

Twitch has a very strict terms of service policy which is outlined here. We are very vigilant about removing content that breaks the TOS guidelines and depending on the severity of the violation we will either ban or suspend accounts. In addition to our own efforts, the Twitch community is unique in that it likes to flag content they suspect or know is a breach of our TOS. Like any social network from YouTube to Facebook, there will always be a very small minority of users who attempt to circumvent the rules. As such, our advice is to report it right away and our staff will be quick to act on it if they haven't already. In terms of privacy settings, those are up are to the respective devices.

If abuses continue to occur, Sony and Twitch could potentially limit livestreaming or remove Playroom, similar to how Nintendo took down Swapnote [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129227-Offensive-Material-Gets-Nintendos-3DS-SwapNote-SpotPass-Shut-Down] on the 3DS due to people using it inappropriately.

considering twitch banned high profile streamers and censored /r gaming on reddit because of an uproar at an admin abusing his powers just last week i'm gonna take this whole thing with a pinch of salt.

This is The Escapist, of course it's going to turn into a huge debate around that shortly.

Before that happens though; I had a look at the Twitch TOS and couldn't find anywhere that stated streaming content was restricted to gaming content only, does anyone know where exactly the TOS says it is so?

Really, you expect to give the general public broadcasting capabilities and then have them not create their own pornography? Rule 34 is all-encompassing. I guarantee that somewhere in the Middle East there is at least one cave painting of a naked woman, suiting no other purpose than to be a prehistoric pinup.

What is there to talk about? We don't know the context of that story. Maybe the two of them are married for years and regularly drink themselves silly and have sex where one or more of them are near unconsciousness. Maybe they are fine with that.

Don't get me wrong, daterape is a serious problem, but given the amount of information we have I don't see how that label can be applied with good conscious in this case. Just not enough information to get bothered about that part of the story.

We've actually documented thousands of such caves globally, thousands of caves that can really only be referred to as "Wank Holes".

Just ban the Playroom (the name of it already implies sexual content, come on) from twitch. One less crappy thing on there (even though i dont watch Twitch).
