Telltale: The Walking Dead Season Two Won't Be a "Clone" of Season One

Telltale's co-founder states that for The Walking Dead Season Two, they will "evolve it so that it's not a clone" of Season One.

Speaking to OXM [http://www.oxm.co.uk/68288/the-walking-dead-season-2-wont-be-a-clone-of-season-1-promises-telltale/] in its latest issue regarding The Walking Dead Season Two, Telltale Games co-founder Kevin Bruner says that "The goal is to try to make it better than Season One - and to evolve it so that it's not a clone."

Bruner adds, "we can take everything we learned from the first season - and everything we've learned from Fables so far - and hopefully it'll be better than both Season One and Fables, and be the most evolved thing that we do. But we'll be ambitious with it - I don't think that 'Don't screw it up; just feed them more' is our style."

This comes after the surprise success of the studio's 2012 release of The Walking Dead adventure game where choices and narrative mattered more than the actual gameplay. However, given that Telltale is using the same gameplay mechanics from The Walking Dead Season One and Fables: A Wolf Among Us, it's understandable that some people might assume that developer will tread familiar ground once more.

For those who've played the first episode of Season Two, has Telltale succeeded? Judging from our review of "All That Remains, [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/10817-The-Walking-Dead-Season-Two-All-That-Remains-Review]" it seems Telltale is on the right track.

The second season's first episode titled, All That Remains, is now out for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and iOS devices for $4.99, or you can buy the entire season at a discounted price of just $20.

Well, whatever they do, I hope this season ends the story. I wouldn't want this series to continue on forever.

That was my first thought, but then I started to think about how cool it would be to see Clementine grow up over the course of the next several years. It could be like Boy Meets World but with zombies.

P.S. Thanks

I disagree. There is so much potential here to tell stories. They can have different characters and different places each time to keep it fresh and I love the emotional impact that I'm getting from these games, it's more powerful than anything I've ever felt before in gaming.

When clementine had to clean her wound and stitch it up I really felt her pain and it made me feel uncomfortable and wince. It was incredible, I've never sympathized with a character in that way before.

The violence feels visceral and meaningful, it has real emotional impact, something that shooter games almost completely lack. The writing is superb and there is good pacing and believable characters.

In short, I love this game series and I want more of it!

Yeah, I was blown away by the new episode. Visceral is the right word, it really had umph. I think they should, really, stop worrying about the 'clone' mutters. Doing something well and consistently is a wonderful thing, and something we as gamers have kind of demonized. We demand everything be new, fresh, and inventive, then complain it isn't as good as it was. Nuts to that. TT, you have a system that works. Focus on the writing, and let us enjoy what you do so well.

Why not? I would actually love to see this carried on indefinitely.

At a certain point you need to step away from something and not overindulge. We always want more of the same, untill suddenly we're tired of more of the same. And by that point we'll have grown fatigued of the whole thing, even that parts of it that were good. It's best to leave your audience pining for more rather than exhausted by more.

I don't know where this story is going, but at this point I think it's important for Telltale to stick to one or two main characters, see their journey through to the end, and then leave it at that.

I dunno. I'm confident enough in Telltale's writing ability that I don't think they're going to let things get samey.
