Naughty Dog PS4 Engine is Just "Up and Running" for Uncharted

Naughty Dog confirms its PS4 Uncharted engine is just "up and running" on PS4, teases at The Last of Us PS4 port.

During the PlayStation 4's launch event in New York, Replying to a commenter on the PlayStation Blog [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129665-Uncharted-Coming-to-PS4], Naughty Dog's own Community Strategist, Eric Monacelli, revealed that the studio has its Naughty Dog PS4 Engine "up and running."

We're just getting our Naughty Dog engine up and running on PS4 as we work on the next Uncharted project.

In the same comment, Monacelli gave a "We will see what the future brings! :)" in regards to a PS4 port of The Last of Us and its DLC. Keep in mind that this isn't confirmation, but for those yearning for a port, this is the best you can hope for -- at least for now.

With Naughty Dog's confirmation that the engine is just up and running, does this mean Uncharted's debut on the PS4 won't see the light of day in 2014? Then again, the reveal was a short one-minute clip that didn't give us anything, so they have the entire year to slowly trickle of info about the newest entry in the series.

Are you expecting the new Uncharted game next year or sometime in 2015?

I imagine it was quite a finicky chore to unwrap all the hyperoptimized PS3 CPE/SPE craziness to get it to run on a sane hardware architecture.

If they've been doing the content creation in parallel (for instance all the voice/mo-cap sessions) and if they've been pre-testing bits of levels on the PS3 (to be fleshed out on PS4) then maaaaaybe by Thanksgiving 2014.

2014 would fit their pattern. Reveal at the end of the year, gameplay shown off on stage at the next E3 (and is greeted by thunderous applause), and a reveal later that same year. Worked for Uncharted 2, 3 and only missed on The Last Of Us cause of the delay over internal problems.

A small price to pay for ditching CELL. That thing caused so many problems...

Dunno...Epic Games pulled Gears 2 out of their ass incredibly quickly. The first announcement was during July 08, and the game came out in November that same year. It's quite possible ND are lying to everyone, and the game will come out March?

....of course, that's probably bullshit. Games these days get announced, and then don't come out for about a year. Sometimes even longer.

Depends. Could mean they're early in development, or it could mean they started work on PC long ago, and are now just porting it to the PS4. (not that we'll likely see a PC release, Naughty Dog being a first-party dev studio...) If the latter, then they could just be doing engine work, and all of the assets are already done.

Naughty is first party to Sony so they may have had acess to the workings of PS4 before everyone else hence more time to work on their engine perhaps?
