Mario Kart 8 Will Release in May

Satoru Iwata finally gave a solid release date to the latest installment in the Mario Kart franchise.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's big fixes to longstanding Nintendo problems [http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/140130/index.html], but as it was more a business thing than a customer thing, news about actual games was pretty thin. We were able to discern one piece of actual, Nintendo videogame related news from his presentation, and that was the confirmation of Mario Kart 8's release date.

"We will announce the specific release dates of each software title and the release of new titles in other opportunities such as Nintendo Direct, but today we would like to announce that a key title for Wii U this year, Mario Kart 8, is scheduled to be released globally in May," announced Iwata.

He added that Nintendo hopes to create "huge momentum" with Mario Kart 8, to ensure that the release of major Wii U is not a one-off event, but something that will continue to happen regularly throughout the year.

A supplemental document [http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2014/140130e.pdf] released alongside the briefing shows the release schedule for more upcoming Nintendo games, but as far as I can tell, it's nothing we don't already know.

Wll this is coming earlier than I thought.
Which is good, I'm looking forward to a less competetive game for a change...
Also, MarioKart is awesome :D

Less competitive than what?!?!

MarioKart, MarioParty and Smashbrothers: The evil trifecta that disguise themselves as friendly games but in actuality are the most competitive, friendship breaking games in the history of videogaming.

Yes...
Thanks :p

I actually started thinking about this very thing after I submitted my response.
I came to the same conclusion as you, NintendoLand multiplayer is also one way to get 4 people to bully 1 loner... I wonder if Nintendo are the, maybe, most evil company after all. Turning us all against each other.

People might think that the CoDfish represents the bottom of the barrel in terms of multiplayer behavior, but the only multiplayer games that truly put the heart of darkness into a stylish package are made by Nintendo.

NSMB and SM3DW were fine additions to the "why would they do this to us?!?" collection.

Ah, Mariokart: teaching us all from a young age that no matter how far ahead you are, spiky blue fury can still come out of nowhere and ruin your day. those games are solely responsible for me learning that life simply isn't fair.

And I love it. I may have to get a Wii U somewhere down the line simply to play the new incarnations of kart, smash bros and party. I may possibly be a masochist...

Let's not forget Super Mario Bros. U.
Instead of 4 bullying 1, the guy with the gamepad can basically be the living embodiment of Satan and crush everyone else beneath platforms.

OT: I hope this means that they also plan on giving a solid release date for Smash Bros. 4 at some point, as well as finally getting news out on other new games they may be working on.

They seem to be stagnating. This is basically the HD remake of Mario Kart 7 with some rotation in certain places of the track. I hope that they start from square 1 with Mario Kart 9 (Due Q1 2015)

Captcha: Leap Higher

That is exactly what Nintendo needs to do!
