Nintendo Denies Involvement in Flappy Bird Removal

According to spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa, Nintendo has had no involvement in removing Flappy Bird from Google Play and the App Store.

Flappy Bird is probably one of the oddest success stories to come out of the game industry in some time. The game at its peak was its earning its creator, Dong Nguyen, a solid $50,000 a day. Despite that, Nguyen recently shocked fans when he revealed that he "couldn't take this anymore" and <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/132119-Update-Flappy-Bird-Creator-Is-Removing-The-Game-From-Stores>pulled the game from the App Store and Google Play.

Some suspected that Nintendo might have had a hand in this, perhaps responding to some of the game's visuals which look more than a bit similar to the Super Mario Bros series. That said, Nintendo, commenting on the game recently, has affirmed that it had no part in Flappy Bird's removal. "While we usually do not comment on the rumors and speculations, we have already denied the speculation" said Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa. The company, he said, has made no complaint.

In other words, unless some other culprit rears its ugly head, blame for the removal of Flappy Bird can be placed firmly at Nguyen's own two feet. It's okay though, hardcore fans can still get their Flappy-fix as long as they have an eBay account and <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/132125-Flappy-Bird-Laden-Devices-Selling-for-80-500-Online-Creator-Receives-Threats>$80,500 to spare.

People only point to nintendo because of that dumb green pipe.
That piou piou dev has a million times better case since it's the same genre and very similar character.
But anyway, the game is down now so it doesn't matter at this point if he tried to spin it to where he is the victim or not.

This guy should rerelease this game with elements taken from sonic or something just to troll everyone who complained about the game being a ripoff.

I think quite a bit of the blame can be placed at the feet of the people who harassed the guy 24/7.

This, seriously. "ohhh a suddenly-famous dev has taken his game down after too much internet hate, and nobody forced him to beyond his own hands and decision. lets lay this squarely at his feet!"

partially true, but at the same time that "Squarely laid blame" definitely should include the groups of internet harassers. To dredge up old issues, its like the whole fez crazyness, the proverbial "Straw that broke the camels back" situation.

i didnt knew who flappy bird was so i entered into the google images and pressed enter.\
first though? "mario?".

so definatelly can see why some people point to nintendo, because nintendo is extremely overzelous when it comes to anything even doing so much as showing their games footage on your internet show. They will and do take down content even when its obviously fair use.

well, a person takes down a game. Therefore it is his fault the game is taken down. it was his choice, as you said, nobody forced him. Hence it was not nintendos fault.
now the reasons why he chose that can be discussed, but its not like harassers forced him to do it. If anything, i view it as giving into harassment, which resulted in death threats no less.
