Real-Life Copy of Halo's Energy Sword Forged by Man At Arms


Tony Swatton, the internet's favorite swordsmith and master armorer, brings Halo's energy sword into reality.

Tony Swatton is one of the most overtly manly men in existence. A blacksmith from London, Swatton spends most of his time creating props for movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hunger Games, and Thor. But for the last year, he has also been creating real-life versions of fictional weaponry from television shows [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/130934-Fire-Emblems-Falchion-Sword-Recreated-on-Man-at-Arms]. Today, Swatton showed off his latest, and most ridiculous, creation: Halo's energy sword.

Each of the blades is roughly two inches wide and 39 inches long. The handle was carved out of synthetic mother of pearl, and the sword was heat treated at 500-600 degrees in order to give it a blue/purple hue.

Once the sword was completed, Swatton was impressed by its usability. "Surprisingly," he said, "the weight dropped so much after I started grinding away on everything and tapering it that you'll actually be able to carry it--even though there's no counter weight."

At the end of the video, the Man At Arms crew slaughters a few Halo-related items, some vegetables, and a bottle of Mountain Dew (obviously). The sword probably wouldn't do nearly as much damage as some of Swatton's other creations [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apTVzm09WYc&list=PLUUGFk1wE5OHqeNDwp2q9_ZiPqKlWNc6V&index=30], but once he figures out how to infuse the weapon with futuristic energy, alien invaders might think twice about starting an intergalactic war.

The blades on that thing kept wiggling like crazy in the slo-mo replays. Doesn't seem terribly battle ready

But I know that's not the point. It's awesome.

The energy sword is probably one of the least combat efficient melee weapons ever, since running with that thing will probably slice your legs off. Also they weren't really using it correctly, it's a stabbing weapon, not a slicing one.

Well, whaddaya know. It's just about as impractical as it looks. I prefer a nice gladius or falcata, myself. Sleek-looking things.

The energy sword is probably one of the least combat efficient melee weapons ever, since running with that thing will probably slice your legs off. Also they weren't really using it correctly, it's a stabbing weapon, not a slicing one.

Cool though.

They tend to act more like light sabers in regards to the blades, so no lopping off limbs unless the thing is active.

other wise, aye, stabbing weapon. though not a terribly good one with how big it is, it's a little unwieldy given the size.

Still, its a very cool reproduction and I love how he got the coloring to the blades.

One would think the main value of such a weapon would be the ability to wait until you're within stabbing range of an enemy to activate it, thus making it much less dangerous, cumbersome, and eye catching than a traditional sword.

But of course these are the covenant we're talking about, the same group that gives elites both invisibility packs AND glowing energy swords.

The energy sword is probably one of the least combat efficient melee weapons ever, since running with that thing will probably slice your legs off. Also they weren't really using it correctly, it's a stabbing weapon, not a slicing one.

other wise, aye, stabbing weapon. though not a terribly good one with how big it is, it's a little unwieldy given the size.

Still, its a very cool reproduction and I love how he got the coloring to the blades.

I meant human sized in terms of height, due to IVs being adults when they undergo the process VS the II which where experimented on as children

I thought if that sword was ever made by him, it would of had some kind of blue glitter to it but none the less it is still impressive! The ending could of had an extra touch if they had some guy in a Spartan suit/ costume weilding that sword but it was still funny at stabbing and slicing the Halo products.
