Pacific Rim's Cherno Alpha Recreated by LEGO Artist

LEGO brick artist Jason Corlett has recreated Pacific Rim's Cherno Alpha as a custom three-foot tall model.

Pacific Rim was easily one of 2013's <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/7705-Pacific-Rim>most enjoyable films and it's not all that hard to pin down why. Put succinctly, when the core concept of your film is giant robots pummeling skyscraper-sized monsters you're immediately scoring some major points on the awesome scale. It didn't hurt, of course, that the movie's mecha were some of the coolest in recent memory. Gipsy Danger, Crimson Typhoon, Striker Eureka; they all looked the part of slick, powerful fighting machines perfect for the task of beating giant monsters into submission.

And then there's Cherno Alpha. The oldest Jaeger featured in the film, Cherno Alpha is slow, bulky and cumbersome. That being the case, I'd be lying if I were to say it wasn't my favorite of Pacific Rim's robot roster. Sure, it lacks the shine and polish of the other Jaegirs, but in a lot of ways that's its charm. It's like the Serenity in Firefly; it just wouldn't be as lovable if it didn't have that past-its-prime look.

Luckily for me, I'm not alone in my preference for the little Russian Jaeger that could. LEGO artist Jason Corlett, for instance, recently completely a build project transforming Cherno Alpha into a custom model nearly three feet in height. The build itself involved "no-less than 5,000 piece" and took "roughly 70 hours to build." All in all, it's a nice a model that does a great job of emulating the design of the movie. Check it out and let us know what you think. For my part, I'm hoping that Corlett decides to continue with even more Jaeger models.

My level of want is so fucking strong, it could crack a dwarf star cleanly in half.

This is so goddamn cool. I would give anything to see the rights to some Pacific Rim LEGO sets get sold.

Also, because Cherno is so STRONK and is also the subject of this thread, I must post the following:

lol bravo, this post sums up everything I wanted to say and then some.

I would spend small pile of life savings so far for some pacific rim sets of legos, ESPECIALLY THIS ONE.

On a related note.
What the hell is wrong with the Academy Awards?

Pacific Rim looks awesome, but didn't even get nominated!
LONE RANGER got a nomination, but Pacific Rim doesn't?
I don't get it.

Amen to that! My biggest gripe with badass creations like Cherno Alpha is that LEGO will never put those kind of models out to market.

Angerly shakes fist in the general direction of LEGO HQ

The movie spelling of Jäger is Jaeger using an 'e'

I for one hope it would enter the LEGO Cuusoo project but I doubt it would be accepted.

Still, its an amazing build.

This is awesome. But obviously, just the first step in a greater plan. Now that the scale model is complete, the next stage is to build it to full size. Then send it to Japan to battle the RX-78 Gundam. Who will win the clash of the titans?

Does anyone actually care about those award shows, anymore? They all seem to be nothing more than Hollywood congratulating themselves for being so great. I don't know about you, but I couldn't care less about that. Besides, none of the movies I actually care about ever win, even when they deserve it. They are lucky to win for special effects, half the time.

The thing about awards shows is, that the only movies that win are the ones that are designed to win.

that film was a great film, the loudest film I've ever saw in a cinema as well, my ears hurt after! That guy is talented, well done man!

Side note; I Stayed in a hostel in Germany called "Jaegers" I was wondering why it had a deer as its symbol but then because of the film I knew "Jaeger" Meant hunter, the more you know!

This is incredible. I'd love to see some Pacific Rim Lego sets in the future. As complex as this looks, it's probably a lot easier to build a Lego Jaeger than a Kaiju, but I would love to see a Lego build of Knifehead.

You know what would be sweet? If they released little 'battle pack' sets, each small box coming with a minifig of a Jaeger and a Kaiju, and a small area of city/coast for them to stomp around in. Collect them all for a whole cityscape of smashing!!

This world needs a giant mecha boxing federation RIGHT NOW!

I mean, if you had that televised, with every country submitting their own robot, we wouldn't need any other sports.

It's spelled "Jaeger." And "Gipsy Danger" (Gipsy like the engine).
Thanks kindly! :)
No problem. It's important to remember that "Gypsy Danger" would be incredibly racist. o_o
Now I'm just thinking of racist Jaeger names. GOD. THANKS OBAMA.

OT:
That thing is pretty sweet, but as someone else has said (who is so far up that my muscles cannot lift the scroll wheel to quote), LEGO will never let us have things like this. WHY DO WE HAVE TO BE CREATIVE LEGO.

COME ON.
