Angry Cat Traps Family In Bedroom, Forces 911 Call

The 22-pound Himalayan kept an entire family, including the dog, trapped in a bedroom until police responded to a desperate 911 call.

Lee Palmer of Portland, Oregon, has a wife, an infant son, a dog and a cat named Lux. And Lux, according to Palmer, has "a history of violence." Yesterday, the cat scratched his son's forehead, so Palmer kicked the cat - and the cat dropped the hammer, forcing the family, including the dog, to flee into the bedroom, from where Palmer called 911.

"I kicked the cat in the rear, and it has went off, over the edge, and we aren't safe around the cat," he told the 911 operator. "We're trapped in our bedroom. He won't let us out of our door."

After learning that Palmer was calling about a house cat and not a rogue man-eating tiger that had busted out of the local zoo, the operator excused herself to determine whether this was something the police should actually be sent to deal with. Told that it was, she got back on the line and assured the worried family that help was on the way, although she seemed to struggle for things to say while they waited for the rescuers to arrive.

When animal control finally showed up, the cat jumped onto the refrigerator but they were able to grab it and put it into a pet carrier. Nobody was hurt, including the baby, and despite Palmer's previous statement about the cat's violent nature he later claimed he'd "never seen anything like it" before. Amazingly, as of yesterday the fate of the cat still hadn't been settled. "We are debating what to do," he said. "We definitely want to keep [the cat] away from the baby and keep an eye on his behavior."

Please, kids. Please. Stay in school.

A Himalayan? One of these [http://www.petpedia.com.br/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/hd-wallpapers-download-himalayan-cat-wallpaper-1892x1510-wallpaper.jpg]?

I should have known. Evil little bastards!

Seriously, though, I've never heard of a single instance when kicking a cat had no bad consequences for the foot owner. That seems like a particularly bad call, the result of an unprepared owner realizing they don't know what to do.

22 POUNDS!!! What have they been feeding that thing? It's nearly twice the average weight of a cat that breed.

Am I the only one that finds Andy's avatar to be extremely appropriate for the story?

In my experience, Cats are generally quite laid-back animals. But you should never, EVER, assault an animal as, just like humans, they will fight back.

The number of stories that I've heard in the past few years of dogs that are physically abused killing somebody is far too high.

I clicked the link thinking it would be a somewhat wild cat like a lynx or ocelot. Somebody seriously called 911 over a pissy house cat? I suppose it's a little on the large side, but it's still just a house cat.

My philosophy on pets is 'Never keep an animal that you can't beat in a fist fight'.

For a cat to get that aggressive, something has to has gone seriously wrong in its life. Cats will not attack humans unless they feel seriously threatened or have psychological trauma from past attacks.

Judging by how Lee Palmer *kicked* the cat, he's probably no stranger to animal abuse.

kicking a cat is wrong and probably kind of deserved a bit of a reaction but locked in a fucking bedroom!?

A dog can be a huge snarling beast that can literally kill you, an over weight cat will scratch the shit out of you but I wouldn't back down from it.

Clearly the cat was upset that its owner were a bunch of morons. You can only live with inferior creatures for so long before you just snap. STAND YOUR GROUND, CAT!

My first thought was Rabies, but that is probably the first thing they checked for. I'm also guessing that part of the issue is that they didn't want to hurt the cat, so a lot of what people are talking about as far as fighting it are kind of moot. If this is really unusual behavior, and going by the fact that they are apparently keeping it and "keeping an eye on it" for the moment I'm guessing the level of danger it actually presents is minimal, and that if the problem persists someone will probably just step on it's neck.

I'm also guessing it's a small dog, a toy breed or whatever, since if the dog retreated, it probably recognizes the cat as being dominant, and under most circumstances that's not going to be likely, unless the cat is considerably larger which I'm guessing is the case.

Haven't seen too many cat attack videos I take it? A pissed cat is way faster than us and can jump over 6 feet high. They can easily tear your jugular or rip out your eyes before you can respond if you treat them lightly.

No, just no. With the obvious exception of big cats (tigers), cats aren't a threat ... they are snooty pricks that claw the fuck out of you but tear your jugular? Not happening.

If you don't want to hurt a cat and it's going off then it ca rip you up but unless it's death by thousand cuts, you'll be fine.

It reminds me of a video where a cat swatted a kid, the mother tells the kid to smack the cat, and the cat pounces on the kid's face. Who thinks smacking a cat back is a good idea for something like that? I can understand if it was an actual attack, but for a small scratch that's one-and-done, no way. The cat doesn't understand that as a punishment, they see it as you trying to hurt them.

The details are somewhat vague here, but definitely the dad I see as being at fault. If the cat is known for violence, then why have him around a baby? What incited the scratch? Kids and pets don't always mix, and if unsupervised and play rough, then a pet might attack. Always supervise your kids when around animals! Cats in general often have little patience with kids. And there are also limited details on what the cat did afterwards, but I can imagine he would be pissy wussy after getting kicked and possibly hurt.

As a personal story, my cat loves people. He's even ok with kids most of the time. But once these two 7 year old twins were chasing him with kiddie trikes and making a lot of noise. He scratched them and bit their mom. The mom yelled at me, but I always tell her my cat has a certain level of tolerance to bullshit and the kids wouldn't back off and kept trying to run him over. Your kids bugged him more than an autistic girl that routinely grabs and cuddles him roughly. He's a very mellow cat, but he'll fuck you up if you push him to it.

I guessing the cat reaction must be "I ain't having any of your shit today!" I'm guessingthe family were abusive to it or it's just agressive beforehand.

Ive seen cats freak out and met some bad tempered cats in my day but holy gods.

The day i lock myself in a room cowering from a house cat no matter how large it is i give up and just hang myself.

Really he should not have kicked it but once it freaked out its hardly an issue to you know grab it and pin it down, picvk it up put it in a closet or a room and close the bloody door. calling the police seems literally insane to me.

This is going to end up being the go to 'get your cat declawed' story for the next few years.

Well we are talking about a animal who kills simply because it's bored. Also unlike dogs, cats are just dicks for the sake of it. Still if this cat has a history of violence why would you keep a baby around it.
