Machi Koro English Edition Coming From IDW Games

The game is set to release in July.

Internationally popular Japanese game Machi Koro is finally getting an English translation courtesty of newly founded IDW Games. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/132357-IDW-Launches-Games-Division-With-Kill-Shakespeare-Kickstarter] Machi Koro is a city building game based on cards and dice, where players compete to build their village into a large metropolis as quickly as they can. It's a small game that takes about thirty minutes to play and is for 2-4 players. It will release for $29.99 and IDW plans to release an expansion in Quarter 4 of this year - timed with the holidays.

"Machi Koro is a game that's been whispered about in gaming halls for a long time," said IDW Director of Business Development Jerry Bennington. "Any convention it's been at, players have swarmed booths, snapping up copies, even if they had to translate rules and cards. We're excited to be introducing ourselves at GAMA with a game and giveaway this prestigious." To further that, IDW gave away 100 copies at the GAMA Trade Show in Las Vegas this week. Machi Koro already has translations and releases in French, German, Korean, Polish, and Italian.

After Alderac Entertainment Group's hugely successful publication of Love Letter last year, it's no surprise to see other companies mining the Japanese design scene for hits. The game will be co-produced by Pandasaurus Games, IDW's partner, though it's not entirely clear what the business relationship is. The release is apparently the "first of many" small games to be released by the partnership. No further games have been announced.

IDW has set up a small website about Machi Koro [http://idwgames.com/catalog/machi-koro/], but few other details are available.
