Final Fantasy XIV Battle Recreated With 16-Bit Visuals

Square Enix has released a nifty video transforming a Final Fantasy XIV boss battle into a retro retread.

While it's very much possible that I'm just biased by supreme love of Final Fantasy VI, I can't help but think sometimes that Square Enix would be better off releasing nothing but Super Nintendo games for the rest of eternity. There was just something about the company during that era that seemed special and, in turn, it's hard not to take notice whenever it revisits those long gone days.

For instance, Square Enix recently released a video recreating a boss fight from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in the style of a classic 16-bit RPG. The fight in question, a bout against the boss Titan, lasts about three minutes and involves a bevy of characters (ripped primarily from Final Fantasy V) duking it out with the gigantic beast in a pixelated battle royal that should very much tweak your nostalgia bone. For a peek at the modern version of the fight, feel free to check out <a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjYqg9rrok0#t>this video.

This, of course, isn't the first 16-bit video that Square Enix has put out recently. Back in January the company released a <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131810-Square-Enixs-Final-Fantasy-XIII-Retrospective-is-Retro-tastic>Final Fantasy XIII retrospective that used custom retro-styled visuals to catch prospective players up on the game's story in advance preparation for the release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Hopefully we'll see more videos like this in the future. Granted, retro-style games would be better, but we'll take what tidbits we can get.

This seems so much cooler then any of the new games, i kinda like this idea, maybe if you could pause the game and set the characters to move in real time i would love to see an rpg were you run a large party in this fashion.

why did the disable the comments and ratings?

i mean its obviously a pretty nice video
They probably wanted to avoid hearing backlash and all for their (semi)recent decisions with the FF series on whole(like the clusterkerfuffle that was FF XIII on whole) I'd wager, along with just hate spam.

OT: Neat video, makes me kind of wish there was a way to make a game like that now dammit.

I'd actually like a (new) full game like this, but I'm guessing it'll never happen due to graphics wars. Just something to mix it up.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XII.
Oh god, Square Enix wants to put Lightning in more games and they are starting with the older games!? CALL THE NATIONAL GUARD! ELEVATE THE TERROR LEVEL!
Er... bugger.

Getting flashbacks here...

On the eve of the announcement of Final Fantasy XIII-2...

Operator: Colonel! Toriyama's milking [http://i50.tinypic.com/6rjwvq.jpg] -- er, I mean he's at it again!
Nabaat: That means we're... Code Yellow.
Nabaat: No wait, Code Blue?
Nabaat: If we were Orange that would mean...
Operator: The ideas are getting through! They're entering discussions!
Nabaat: No! Damn it, Toriyama!
Operator: Ideas located! Tokyo, in the Shinjuku side!
Nabaat: *throws down glasses* Make it rain!
Primarch: Desperate times demand flexibilty.
Primach: *beat* Code White.

Code:
>>>TERROR LEVEL HAS BEEN ELEVATED TO: CODE WHITE

And we all know how it ends...

OT: The snark in me tells me says, "At least they used the assets for All The Bravest for something mildly amusing."

Then again, I'm assuming waaaay too much there.

Otherwise, as a player of FFXIV:ARR, this is a pretty cool video, nice to see these cool retro vids being put out.
Lol, nah just a typo. Thanks! :)

That was a real cool video. I really enjoyed it. And I'd like to see more like it.

That being said:
Fuck Titan! Stupid instant kill that knocks you off the platform. I had some serious latency issues (likely as I am playing on PS3) and it knocked me off when I was no where near it.

As someone who has done that fight, I can say that this is all true, including the one person that failed horribly getting the reward at the end. It always happens.

Ironically, Titan extreme wasn't as hard to do as Titan Hard mode, for some reason trying to get that final boss kill for my relic weapon was the hardest thing I ever did in that game XD

You know, I really used to have this same problem as well. But the one thing I have discovered that seems to be more true than anything in this game has ever said to me ever...

Memorize the attack pattern.

Doing this WON'T guarantee a clear for Titan, as everyone needs to anticipate them as a whole, but latency CAN be defeated by moving in advance of attacks. Mostly I'm referring to Weight of the Land, as I managed to finally get around that last night during a BLM relic clear. Luckily the very same run that lag finally got me and hit me with a double WotL was the same round we cleared the fight with.

Titan became one of my favorite fights pretty quick and I find it a blast to run now, assuming everyone in the group can dance the Titan Tango.
