Dwayne Johnson Talks Potential DC Film Roles

Dwayne Johnson wants to play a DC character "on a Superman level" so he can "throw down" with the iconic hero.

Dwayne Johnson wants to do a superhero movie. Of course, in this day and age that's nothing special. What with flicks focused on capes and tights pretty much stomping on the box office at every turn, every actor and their uncle is vying for a title role that will land them in skintight spandex.

In the case of Johnson however, things are made a tad more interesting by <a href=http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/05/dwayne-johnson-hints-that-hes-playing-green-lantern?utm_campaign=ign+main+twitter&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social>recent rumors that the actor might be in line to be the man behind the Green Lantern's mask. While Johnson would go on to deny to these rumors, he affirmed in a recent interview that discussions with DC may yet land him in a costume and cape.

"So there's been mutual interest with us for years, and we've been having ongoing discussions, myself and DC, for years about the right character," said Johson. While he refused to name any of the characters up for consideration, Johnson would go on to outline some of the criteria candidates would need to meet his muster. According to Johnson, the character would need to be "extremely complex," have never had another live-action rendition and be a "badass ************" with powers "on a Superman level" to ensure that "[we] could throw down."

Unfortunately, given <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_human_superheroes_in_DC_Comics>the scope of the DC Universe, Johnson's criteria doesn't necessarily narrow things down all that much. That said, who do you think he should play? When you look at him, which superhero (or villain) do you see? Just personally, I think he'd make a nifty Vandal Savage, especially if they used the medieval fantasy <a href=http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/15659/2408343-vandal_savage_strength_cleverness_demon_knights_10.jpg>Demon Knights version. Of course, that would probably require a Demon Knights movie and that won't be happening on account of it being too potentially awesome.

If he wants to throw down with Superman, he could always take the Lobo route...There have been more drastic actor-to-character transformations after all, remember when John Leguizamo was Clown/Violator in the Spawn movie? The problem with this however is the same as the Demon Knights/Vandal Savage problem: Lobo is awesome. Lobo is The Main Man and since he's from space and so over the top, he just doesn't fit into the drab, washed-out DC Cinematic Universe.

... Still sounding like John Stewart to me. Who ever you choose. Don't be the Icon. Please, seriously. That character has no depth and is full of BS.

I'd like to see him play Lobo as well.

Not the sissy New 52 Lobo, the cool one from Batman/Superman TAS

Rocket is the star of that comic. I always found it as a way to say that we don't need any more superheroes who want to lead by example, but we need the common man (or woman) making themselves uncommon to actually help and get things done.

An Icon movie can be that awakening. Something happened to Rocket, and Icon loses it.

Mr. Freeze.

Because I want to laugh my ass off at another Batman and Robin level bomb. :3

No really, about the only thing funnier than Arnold hamming it up as Mr. Freeze would be Dwayne taking the part way too seriously.

Even though the rock has been in a good number of movies now, I still feel like he is playing at it? I mean Stone Cold and couple of others have been in movies and nobody is calling them film stars.

Though, rock is just a Samoan Vin Diesel I think.

so many to choose from
Bizarro
Doomsday
Darksied
Gorilla Grodd
Lex Luthor
Swamp Thing
Black Adam

But he would be perfect for an Aqua Man

imagine The Rock punching sharks and throwing whales at people while dressed in orange and green and everyone making fun of him.....it would be the best thing ever

Darkseid, the Rock as Darkseid would be awesome :)
I'd be interested in seeing him as Darkseid. Or Black Adam. He certainly has an imposing physique compared to Henry Cavill so I could certainly buy him being a major threat.

Am sure DC would mess it up. I wish they would respect the source material instead of making every movie grim just because Nolans Batman trilogy was successful. Anyway, Dwayne would be good as a comic book villian, not sure who he would be. But he has the build and physicality to be a threat to any character he faced. Just as long as they dont add a Rock Bottom or other wrestling moves into it. Hate that. Though would of been interesting if he did play Zod. :)
