Amy Acker Joins Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As Cellist

Amy Acker will appear in at least one episode as Audrey, a talented musician and Agent Coulson's former lover.

First of all - spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., up to and including Episode 11: The Magical Place [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/moviesandtv/tvrecaps/agentsofshield/10880-Marvels-Agents-of-S-H-I-E-L-D-Review-Episode-11-The-Magical-Place].

We're finally going to meet the love of Agent Coulson's life. Amy Acker, who has appeared in several series with show runner Joss Whedon, will join the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Acker will play Audrey, a talented cellist and Agent Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) former lover. A cellist was first mentioned as Coulson's love interest in Marvel's The Avengers, but she has gone unnamed and unseen until now. Acker will appear in at least one episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Audrey is a cellist for the Portland Symphony, and believes Coulson to be dead following the events of The Avengers. The reunion may be bittersweet, as TVGuide.com reports [http://www.tvguide.com/News/Agents-SHIELD-Amy-Acker-Coulson-Cellist-1079676.aspx] that Audrey "has no idea that [Coulson is] guarding her from a distance as a super-powered threat from her past re-emerges."

Audrey has been alluded to throughout Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Raina (Ruth Negga) used the fact [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiIJoogG1IU] that Audrey believes Coulson to be dead to convince Coulson to use CENTIPEDE's memory recovery machine. "She cried for days after S.H.I.E.L.D. told her you died," says Raina. "They shattered her heart with a lie, and now they're lying to you." Acker's episode is slated to air Tuesday, April 22. Acker has shared the screen with Gregg before, in Whedon's adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Acker has also appeared in Whedon's Angel and Dollhouse television series. She currently stars in the CBS crime drama Person of Interest.

Emotionally, Coulson has had a rough season, and I don't expect this reunion to be anything other than heart-wrenching. If you're looking for slightly more uplifting fare, Portland geek duo The Doubleclicks composed an ode to the hard-working S.H.I.E.L.D. agent [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O2Lbmwuyyc], featuring, of course, the cello.

Given what just happened in Winter Soldier I'm actually looking forward to future episodes of AoS, still this seems like one of those annoying contrived situations to force the characters back together sidestepping any decent development on Coulson's part.

Still, Amy Acker.

Great! I love Acker in pretty much every role I've seen her in, from Angel through Dollhouse to Person of Interest. Wouldn't mind her as a recurring character on Agents, especially since that show is sucking less and less as the season moves along.

She was good in angel, just looked way to thin in the later series of Angel. Anyway, SHIELD bored me and not watched since episode 8. Never gave a crap about Coulson and the other main characters aren't interesting. So adding her wont make the show any more watchable for me. Though will watch them all in boxset, maybe all that waiting between episodes ruined it.

ROOT!!!!! Yeah, she wont be a part of the permanent cast, I wouldnt think, because she is a very big part of Persons of Interest. Which is, by the way, a FAR better show than Agents of Shield could ever hope to be.

In Person of Interest the talk is quickly going the way of the movie "Transcendence", so Root may later be relegated to a digital presence only if she's not killed off outright, in which case I can understand why Amy Acker may be looking to add to her acting profile.

Amy Acker: yay!!!!
Hope she won't be a one off. Let's get her some super powers, or maybe she's an agent from some shady secret agency deep undercover... Hopefully not the latter, the good team needs her most ;)

I recently got to see her Beatrice in Whedon's Much Ado about Nothing. She was fantastic. This might actually make me more interested in watching AoS.
